The year 2025 has come to a close, making it the perfect time to look back at the anime scene over the past twelve months. As always, the Shonen genre once again proved its absolute dominance. From rising stars to legendary icons, the anime released this year delivered breathtaking battles and main characters with depth and extraordinary power.

The strength of these protagonists is more than just a tool to defeat enemies, it’s a magnet drawing millions of viewers. Let’s take a look at the most powerful heroes who shook up the anime world in 2025.

1. Ayase Momo (Dandadan) – A fierce heroine with supreme spiritual powers

Ayase Momo from Dandadan

Momo Ayase stands out as one of the rare female leads among 2025’s strongest characters. After awakening her spiritual abilities in the first season, she became an indispensable pillar of Dandadan. She has saved Okarun multiple times and defeated terrifying supernatural beings. Without Momo, Okarun likely wouldn’t have survived this long.

What makes Momo truly fearsome is not just her spiritual power but also her sharp intellect. She can analyze and pinpoint an opponent’s weakness in an instant. In the recent second season, Momo showcased devastating power by protecting an entire town from destruction. With all she’s demonstrated, Momo deserves her place among the strongest Shonen protagonists of the year.

2. Rudo (Gachiakuta) – Turning trash into deadly weapons

Rudo from Gachiakuta

When the anime Gachiakuta was announced, few expected Rudo to become a new Shonen icon. Rudo is a kind-hearted teen who firmly believes every object, no matter how small, has its own value. This belief sparked his unique power: transforming discarded items into powerful weapons.

Throughout season one, Rudo constantly surprised fans by turning “trash” into lifesaving tools for himself and his team in tight spots. His limitless creativity combined with physical strength makes him an unpredictable and formidable opponent on the battlefield.

3. Okarun (Dandadan) – Terrifying speed from yokai power

Alongside Momo, Okarun is the heart and soul of Dandadan. Though they work seamlessly as a team, Okarun’s individual strength cannot be underestimated. Thanks to the power of “Turbo Granny,” he can transform and face off directly against the most dangerous yokai and creatures.

From a weak boy needing Momo’s protection, Okarun has learned to control his power. After transformation, his speed and physical strength skyrocket, turning him into a true battle god. Speed is his ultimate weapon, allowing him to finish enemies before they can even react.

4. Kafka Hibino (Kaiju No. 8) – Monster strength inside a human body

After years of giving up on his dream, Kafka Hibino redoubled his efforts to rejoin the Defense Force, encouraged by Reno Ichikawa. However, an unusual accident gave him the ability to transform into a Kaiju after accidentally swallowing one.

In his Kaiju form, Kafka possesses terrifying physical strength, endurance, and resilience. He can crush giant Kaiju with his bare hands, something even the most advanced human weapons struggle to achieve. Kafka perfectly blends the experience of a seasoned monster cleaner with the power of a natural disaster.

5. Midoriya Izuku (My Hero Academia) – The new symbol of peace

Returning in season 8 of My Hero Academia, Midoriya Izuku (Deku) shows remarkable growth after years of mastering his powers. He’s not only a powerful fighter but also a brilliant strategist with keen observation skills developed before gaining Quirks.

Thanks to One For All, Deku can now simultaneously use multiple Quirks like Gearshift, Danger Sense, Fa Jin, Float, Smokescreen, and Blackwhip. This seamless combination makes him a nightmare for any villain. Yet, Deku’s true strength lies in his unwavering willpower, never giving up even when victory seems impossible.

6. Monkey D. Luffy (One Piece) – The unrivaled Sun God

Without a doubt, Monkey D. Luffy is the strongest Shonen protagonist of 2025. This year, the Straw Hat captain faced off against some of the most formidable names in history like Rob Lucci, Admiral Kizaru, and even the Five Elders. With overwhelming power, Luffy defeated Lucci and Kizaru with relative ease.

All thanks to the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, a Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit granting him the power of the ancient Sun God. In Gear 5 form, Luffy can transform his body and surroundings into rubber at will, fighting with absolute freedom. Combined with advanced Observation Haki (future sight), Armament Haki, and Conqueror’s Haki, Luffy currently stands at the pinnacle of anime power.
