2025 is shaping up to be the year of Demon Slayer. With the release of Infinity Castle Part 1 in theaters, the series has exceeded all expectations, delivering an unforgettable experience and setting a new high standard for anime films.

However, Demon Slayer’s throne is not untouchable. Currently, only one name stands out as a serious contender with the potential to claim the crown in the future: Jujutsu Kaisen, led by its headline showdown between Gojo and Sukuna.

Demon Slayer: The undisputed box office powerhouse

No one can deny Demon Slayer’s incredible impact. Even before the anime, the manga was a phenomenon in Japan. But it was Studio Ufotable’s masterful adaptation that turned it into a global sensation. After the massive success of Mugen Train, which still holds records for box office and manga sales per volume, many thought Demon Slayer had reached its peak.

Yet Infinity Castle has raised the bar even higher. Its dazzling visuals, intense storytelling, and top-tier animation have cemented the series’ unrivaled status on the big screen. Still, believing no one can catch up to Demon Slayer would be a mistake.

Jujutsu Kaisen: A worthy rival with huge potential

If any modern Shonen series can stand toe-to-toe with Demon Slayer, it’s Jujutsu Kaisen. The success of JJK 0, a prequel with a different cast, already proved the franchise’s global appeal with impressive box office numbers.

The true strength of Jujutsu Kaisen lies in its main storyline. Fans know that the ultimate battle of modern Shonen is the clash between Gojo Satoru and Sukuna. This is more than just a fight, it’s a cultural event with the power to shake the entire anime world.

Gojo vs Sukuna: A record-breaking showdown in the making

Fans are eagerly hoping this epic battle will be brought to theaters instead of just TV episodes. A theatrical release featuring the “Strongest” and the “King of Curses” would offer a visual spectacle unlike anything seen in the past decade.

The hype around Gojo and Sukuna is unmatched by any current anime battle. If Studio MAPPA decides to honor this iconic fight with a movie, the records set by Mugen Train and Infinity Castle could be seriously threatened.

For now, Demon Slayer remains the undisputed king of anime films. But with the overwhelming excitement surrounding Gojo vs Sukuna, Jujutsu Kaisen holds a golden opportunity to rewrite box office history.

Whether or not a movie is needed to prove its worth, Jujutsu Kaisen already boasts some of the best fights in modern Shonen. Still, a grand theatrical debut would be the perfect move to challenge Demon Slayer’s empire.
