When talking about Yuta Okkotsu and the “Cursed Queen” Rika Orimoto, overlooking their promise ring would be a huge mistake. This ring is not only the sole keepsake linking their souls but also Yuta’s most powerful weapon before he fully mastered his sorcery.

Here are some fascinating facts about this special item in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen.

1. Unexpected Origin: Originally Rika’s Mother’s Wedding Ring

Rika's wedding ring origin

The ring’s origin is less romantic than many think. It was originally Rika Orimoto’s mother’s wedding ring, kept as a treasured heirloom by Rika’s grandmother. However, young Rika secretly took the ring from her grandmother’s clothing and gifted it to Yuta as a birthday present while they were playing in the park.

At that moment, the two children promised to marry each other when they grew up. The ring became more than a gift, it was a vow that created an eternal bond between Yuta and Rika.

2. The Key to Unlocking Rika’s Full Power

Rika's full power unleashed

After a tragic traffic accident, Rika’s soul was transformed into the “Cursed Queen” due to Yuta’s accidental curse. This entity follows Yuta closely but usually only manifests partially to protect him.

The only way for Rika to fully manifest with her absolute power is when Yuta wears the ring. This was proven during Yuta’s first mission with Maki, where they faced giant curses at their school.

3. Activating Sorcery After Rika’s Passing

After defeating Geto Suguru, Rika’s true soul was freed and moved on to the afterlife. However, she left behind a cursed shell named Rika for Yuta. The ring then serves as the medium to fully activate this entity’s power.

Wearing the ring allows Yuta to summon Rika at her strongest state, access a massive arsenal of cursed tools, tap into abundant cursed energy, and even copy other sorcerers’ techniques. This power, however, is limited to about five minutes.

4. The Almost Heir: Yuka, Yuta’s Niece

In a future timeline shown in side stories, an older Yuta spends time with his beloved niece Yuka. Due to their close bond, Yuta personally designates Yuka as the next heir to the cursed ring, hoping it will protect her and help her become a skilled sorcerer.

This hope motivates Yuka to train hard from a young age. Sadly, fate intervenes when Yuka is diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, making the dream of inheriting her grandfather’s keepsake fragile.

5. Tsurugi and the Gojo Clan’s Unexpected Decision

Although Yuta wanted to pass the ring to Yuka, the Gojo clan made a different choice after Yuta’s death. They selected Tsurugi as the new bearer of Rika’s ring.

Initially, Tsurugi was uninterested in the ring, trusting fully in the swordsmanship taught by his grandmother Maki. However, faced with the clan’s firm decision, he reluctantly accepted the ring. He keeps it safe, hoping one day Yuka will prove herself worthy to reclaim the heirloom. This ring has sparked fierce rivalry between the two siblings, leading to endless battles.
