The King of the Monsters franchise is ready to break its own rules. At Anime Festival Asia Singapore 2025, TOHO Animation dropped a major surprise by announcing a brand-new Godzilla anime series. This project promises to mark a breakthrough chapter after seventy years of history, introducing a premise never before seen in the saga.
The protagonist is a human with Kaiju powers

The most shocking aspect of the announcement is the main character: a boy who inherits Godzilla’s power.
For the first time in the franchise’s history, the lead will be a hybrid human capable of unleashing a monster’s power. The revealed concept art shows the boy ready to fire the signature radioactive heat beam, raising the official question: “Is this boy human or Godzilla?”
Keiji Ota, TOHO’s Godzilla director, described this work as an opportunity to explore the fears and hopes of the current era through this new character.
International production team
Production is handled by TOHO Animation in collaboration with Studio Orange (known for Godzilla Singular Point and BEASTARS) and Thailand’s Igloo Studio. This international partnership promises groundbreaking visuals combining CGI and hand-drawn animation.
This announcement comes as the franchise reaches a global peak following the huge success of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and the Oscar win for Godzilla Minus One.
Featuring a human-kaiju hybrid protagonist marks a major turning point, moving beyond the traditional monster-focused stories to delve deeper into inner conflict and the human nature behind wielding destructive power.
