When Luffy first awakened Gear 5 during his battle with Kaido in Wano, many believed it was the ultimate limit of the Nika Devil Fruit. However, events at Egghead and especially Elbaf proved otherwise. Gear 5 keeps appearing with various body transformations, showing that this power increasingly relies on Luffy’s imagination rather than fixed rules.
Here are the standout Gear 5 forms revealed in One Piece so far.
1. Original Gear 5 – The Awakening of the Sun God Nika

Gear 5 debuted in the decisive fight against Kaido after Luffy seemed completely defeated. His heartbeat shifted to the “Liberation Drum,” his hair and clothes turned white, and the Gomu Gomu no Mi was revealed to actually be the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika.
Unlike Gear 4, which has distinct modes like Boundman and Snakeman, Gear 5 isn’t limited to a fixed fighting style. Luffy can bend, stretch, distort, or reshape his body however he wants.
This ability to “fight with imagination” makes Gear 5 the most unpredictable power in One Piece.
2. Giant Luffy – Transforming into a Giant

One of Gear 5’s most impressive transformations is the ability to enlarge his entire body into a true giant.
Luffy first used this form to confront Kaido in his giant dragon shape. Not just his arms, but his whole body was magnified enough to grab Kaido midair.
Later at Egghead, Luffy used this giant form again to capture Admiral Kizaru with a massive hand, proving this is a skill he can call on anytime in Gear 5.
3. Balloon Luffy – An Upgraded Inflation Technique

The ability to inflate his body has been around since early One Piece with Gomu Gomu no Fusen. But in Gear 5, this technique reaches a whole new level. Luffy can turn his body into a giant balloon while maintaining agility and the ability to counterattack instantly.
This isn’t a separate mode but proof that Gear 5 lets Luffy shape his body almost without limits.
4. Muscle Luffy – Cartoonish Muscle Amplification

Another fan-favorite variation is the exaggerated muscle form. In this state, Luffy can instantly bulk up his muscles to boost the power of his punches.
Interestingly, Eiichiro Oda doesn’t treat this as a serious power-up. It plays out in a humorous cartoon style fitting Nika’s spirit, where body changes happen simply as a spontaneous thought from Luffy.
5. Gear 5 at Egghead – Mastering the Power

While Wano marked Gear 5’s birth, Egghead is where Luffy truly mastered this form. During battles with Kizaru, Saint Saturn, and the Five Elders, Luffy seamlessly switches between multiple transformations without pause.
Changing size, distorting his body, or turning the environment into rubber has become second nature rather than skills he has to consciously activate. This shows Gear 5 isn’t about unlocking new Gears but about Luffy unlocking more of its potential.
6. Genie Luffy – The Strangest Transformation Yet

Chapter 1188 introduced a completely new form that surprised fans. In the fight against Imu, Luffy suddenly transformed into a giant genie-like figure with a massive torso, white hair, and the signature Gear 5 clouds.
This is the first time Gear 5 has created a form distinctly different from the earlier Giant Luffy.
Although “Genie Luffy” is a fan-given name and not officially confirmed by Eiichiro Oda, it highlights that Gear 5 still holds many untapped possibilities.
