For years, Super Saiyan 5, 6, and even 7 were considered purely fan-made concepts within the Dragon Ball community. However, the latest development from the franchise has surprised many fans by officially referencing these legendary transformation levels in an official Dragon Ball product.
Dragon Ball Sparking! ZERO Surprises Fans by Mentioning Super Saiyan 5, 6, and 7
This all started with the new DLC for Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO, which added the Dragon Ball GT version of Vegeta to the character roster. In the English voiceover, Vegeta repeats a familiar line from Dragon Ball GT, but this time it’s expanded in a way that thrilled the community.
Instead of just challenging Goku with a mention of Super Saiyan 5 as before, Vegeta now declares: “Kakarot, bring out your Super Saiyan 4, 5, 6, or 7. No matter the form, I will surpass you.”
This brief line instantly sparked widespread discussion on social media, marking the first time Super Saiyan 6 and 7 have been mentioned in an official Dragon Ball product.
The Origins of Super Saiyan 5 and Internet Legends
For those who have followed Dragon Ball since the early 2000s, Super Saiyan 5 is almost a nostalgic memory. Back when the internet was still young, numerous images of Goku transforming into Super Saiyan 5 or even Super Saiyan 100 circulated widely, convincing many that these forms were real.
Renowned fan artists like TablosAF, Young Jijii, and especially Toyble (the former pen name of Toyotarou, the current Dragon Ball Super manga artist) created highly convincing Super Saiyan 5 designs, turning this form into a fan community icon.
In reality, the term “Super Saiyan 5” first appeared in official content within Dragon Ball GT.
In episode 55 of the original Japanese version, Vegeta says something along the lines of: “Kakarot, bring out your Super Saiyan 4, 5, or whatever you want. I’m not giving up yet.”
The English dub of Dragon Ball GT kept this idea, though the line differs slightly, with Bulma suggesting Super Saiyan 5.
The English Dub Adds a Meme Reference to “6, 7”
Interestingly, in Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO, the expanded line mentioning “Super Saiyan 6, 7” seems to appear only in the English dub. Many players note that the Japanese audio only says something like “Super Saiyan 4, 5, or any form beyond,” without directly naming 6 and 7.
This has led many to believe the English voice actors intentionally added “6, 7” as a playful nod to popular internet memes.
Regardless of the intent, the fact that these fan-created Super Saiyan levels are now referenced in an official Dragon Ball product holds special meaning for longtime fans.
Could Super Saiyan 5 Appear in Dragon Ball Super?
So far, Super Saiyan 5, 6, and 7 have only appeared as humorous references in dialogue, not as official transformations for Goku or Vegeta.
However, the possibility of this changing in the future is no longer far-fetched.
After taking over Dragon Ball Super, Toyotarou, who gained fame for his Dragon Ball AF fan manga, now leads the franchise’s future. Notably, before becoming the official Dragon Ball artist, Toyotarou designed Super Saiyan 5 for Dragon Ball AF and has expressed fondness for the concept.
Because of this, many fans believe that if Dragon Ball continues to expand its power system in upcoming arcs, Super Saiyan 5 could be revived in a new form. While there is no official confirmation yet, the appearance of Super Saiyan 5, 6, and 7 in an official Dragon Ball product is a landmark moment for fans who have followed the series for over two decades.
