Yoshihiro Togashi’s Hunter x Hunter is one of the most beloved anime and manga series of all time. The manga first debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1998 and gained massive popularity thanks to its unique power system and exceptional world-building.
However, due to Togashi’s health issues, the series has followed an irregular release schedule since 2006. Hunter x Hunter has frequently gone on indefinite hiatuses, allowing Togashi to work at his own pace without the pressure of tight deadlines affecting his health. Thanks to the mangaka’s dedication and the publisher’s understanding, the series has continued to this day, with fans eagerly awaiting new updates.
The manga has been in the Succession Contest arc since chapter 340, released in 2012. Even after more than thirteen years, this arc is far from over.
Hunter x Hunter returned with a batch of 10 chapters in October 2024, releasing weekly until December. After chapter 410 was published, the manga announced another indefinite hiatus. Still, Togashi has kept sharing progress updates over the past few days. He returned to social media in August this year, and his latest post has sparked great hope for the manga’s comeback.
Hunter x Hunter Creator Reveals Status of Upcoming Chapters

In his latest post on his official X account, Togashi shared a new illustration of characters from the Succession Contest arc. Alongside it, he offered optimistic news: “I have finished adding dialogue for the characters in chapter 420! That completes the dialogue for ten chapters. I will continue working on the manuscript stages.”
In another post on October 6, Togashi confirmed he had completed setting the backgrounds (sketching the scenes). Judging by his posts on X, the next batch will also consist of 10 chapters.
Although most of the work is done, the manga’s return date will only be confirmed once the manuscript is complete. Fortunately, the author’s frequent updates give fans hope they won’t have to wait much longer. The Succession Contest arc is at a critical point, with chapter 410 ending on a major climax as 40 minutes have passed since the special military law was enacted, giving a clear advantage to Benjamin, the first prince in the Succession War.
While updates so far only cover the next ten chapters, last December Togashi confirmed he is planning dialogue and scheduling for the next 50 chapters. The latest Japanese volume 38 of Hunter x Hunter (covering chapters 391 to 400) was released on September 4, 2024, about two years after volume 37.
