In Yu-Gi-Oh!, the Millennium Items are not just mythical jewelry but the heart of the story, sparking intense shadow duels. Forged in ancient Egypt 3,000 years ago, these artifacts hold terrifying ultimate power.
According to the main storyline, the Millennium Items were created using the power of the ancient Millennium Spellbook. When the Egyptian kingdom faced invasion, King Aknamkanon (father of Pharaoh Atem/Yami Yugi) ordered his brother Aknadin to forge seven magical items.

To seal a pact with darkness, Aknadin led his army to Kul Elna, a village of thieves. Over seven days and nights, they slaughtered 99 innocent villagers as sacrifices, using their lives to forge the artifacts. This brutal tragedy sparked a deep grudge and gave rise to the villain Thief King Bakura, the sole survivor.
Realizing the catastrophic potential of these items, the Egyptian court guarded them fiercely. In modern times, fate has chosen new owners to continue the destined battles.
Here are the details of the seven Millennium Items’ powers:
1. Millennium Puzzle

Appearance: An inverted pyramid engraved with the Eye of Wadjat. Originally called the Millennium Pendant, it shattered and became a challenging puzzle that Yugi Muto spent eight years solving.
Power: Contains the soul of Pharaoh Atem. It allows the user to summon and control Duel Monsters, including the Egyptian Gods. Solving the puzzle grants supreme strategy and dark power.
Past owners: Aknamkanon, Atem, Priest Seto, Solomon Muto, and Yugi Muto (Yami Yugi).
2. Millennium Eye

Power: To activate, the owner must sacrifice their left eye. In return, they can read opponents’ minds, see their strategies and cards, perceive souls, seal souls into cards, and see the dead.
Past owners: Aknadin, Maximillion Pegasus, Yami Bakura, Seto Kaiba, and Yugi Muto.
3. Millennium Ring

Power: Acts as a spiritual compass, locating anything the owner desires. It holds the evil souls of Zorc Necrophades and Thief Bakura, able to seal souls into inanimate objects.
Past owners: Mahad, Thief King Bakura, Alexander the Great, Mana, Zorc, Bakura Ryou, Marik Ishtar, Yugi Muto, and Seto Kaiba.
4. Millennium Scale

Power: Also called the Scales of Truth, it uses the feather of the goddess Ma’at to weigh the sins and darkness in a person’s heart. It also has fusion power, allowing the combination of multiple monsters.
Past owners: Karim, Bandit King Bakura, Atem, Shadi, and Yugi Muto.
5. Millennium Key

Appearance: Shaped like an Ankh symbol and the only item without the Eye of Anubis engraving.
Power: Opens the soul door of others to enter their “Soul Room,” allowing personality changes or brainwashing. In the anime, it enables telepathic communication. Shimon Muran used it to seal the powerful god Exodia.
Past owners: Shimon Muran, Shada, Shadi, and Yugi Muto.
6. Millennium Rod

Power: Grants mind control over targets, turning them into loyal pawns, as Yami Marik did. However, this brainwashing fails against others who possess or are linked to another Millennium Item. It can also seal spirit monsters.
Past owners: Priest Seto, God Ishtar, Marik Ishtar, and Yugi Muto.
7. Millennium Necklace

Power: A clairvoyant item that grants the wearer the ability to see past events and accurately predict near-future happenings.
Past owners: An ancient High Priest, Mr. Ishtar, Ishizu Ishtar, and Yugi Muto.
After thousands of years, all seven Millennium Items ultimately came into the hands of the King of Games, Yugi Muto. Each artifact holds a unique power that can turn the tide of mystical card battles.
