Solo Leveling fans have finally received the news they’ve been waiting for over a year. At Anime Expo 2026, Crunchyroll announced a brand-new feature film titled Solo Leveling: Beyond the System, set to release in 2027. The movie will pick up right after the Jeju Island arc, according to Crunchyroll.
This means Jinwoo is likely to return to the Double Dungeon, if the film continues beyond the Ahjin Guild arc. Along with that, he will undergo one of his biggest power upgrades yet: the Black Heart. Readers who have followed the manhwa know just how significant this moment is. For those unfamiliar, here’s what to expect next.
What is the Black Heart in Solo Leveling?
The Black Heart isn’t just another item like those Jinwoo has acquired from dungeons through the System. It is actually the heart and life source of Ashborn, the original Shadow Monarch.
Ashborn is one of the entities created by the Absolute Being and is considered one of the strongest Monarchs. He is also the origin of Jinwoo’s most powerful ability: Arise.
After Jinwoo obtains the Black Heart, it begins beating inside his chest right next to his human heart, glowing with a deep purple light.
So what does the Black Heart actually do? It primarily grants Jinwoo an additional 100,000 mana points, pushing him far beyond any national-level hunter.
Essentially, Jinwoo no longer needs to worry about the scale or regeneration of his shadow army. He literally becomes a one-man army who can fight at full strength without holding back.
The Double Dungeon Arc: How Jinwoo Gets the Black Heart
This entire event takes place during the Double Dungeon arc. After forming his own Ahjin Guild, a subplot that will be shown first in the film, Jinwoo is invited back to the very dungeon where he once sacrificed himself and received the System.
However, this is actually a trap set by the Architect, the creator of the System.
The Architect’s real plan is to use Jinwoo as a vessel to bring Ashborn back. The goal was never to make Jinwoo stronger. In fact, he was destined to be a sacrifice for Ashborn’s return.
Jinwoo then faces off directly against the Architect in a battle fans are not yet ready to witness. After the Architect is defeated, Ashborn willingly passes the Black Heart to Jinwoo, betraying the Architect and his plan.
This allows Jinwoo to surpass the System itself and become a Shadow Monarch, though not yet fully complete. This also explains the film’s title, Beyond the System.
How the Black Heart Changes Jinwoo’s Power in Beyond the System
Once Jinwoo possesses the Black Heart, he enters an entirely new level of power. He becomes an incomplete Shadow Monarch, strong enough to face off directly against ordinary Monarchs, something he never imagined before.
His already formidable abilities are elevated to a whole new height.
This is also the moment Jinwoo fully accepts his identity as the Shadow Monarch and begins aiming for even greater goals. From here, his presence alone could make national-level hunters wary.
Jinwoo also becomes the first person called upon to assist when a massive gate appears in Japan.
