One Piece: 6 Horrific Crimes of Figarland Garling, Shanks’ Ruthless Father

Fans are still reeling from the latest revelations about the Figarland family in One Piece. While Shanks is known as a loyal and honorable Yonko, his father Figarland Garling is a figure who sends chills down anyone’s spine with his cruelty and extremist views.

Garling is not just an ordinary Celestial Dragon, he embodies the corruption at Mary Geoise. Let’s take a look at six unforgivable crimes committed by the man known as the “most evil face” of the World Government!

1. The Instigator of the God Valley Tragedy

God Valley Tragedy

Few know that the Five Elders initially had no plans to hunt at God Valley. It was Garling who discovered the Davy tribe, a group despised by Imu, living there. With his brutal nature, he turned the area into a deadly battleground, causing the tragic deaths of many innocent Davy people.

2. Murdering His Own Wife

Magnolia and Garling

This is perhaps the most shocking detail. Garling had a relationship with Magnolia, a woman from God Valley who gave birth to Shanks and Figarland Shamrock. Though he seemed to care for his children, he looked down on Magnolia. When tempted by Shakuyaku, a high-value bounty, he mercilessly attacked his wife. Magnolia died from severe wounds while trying to help Shanks and Shamrock escape the “devil’s” grasp.

3. Champion of the Brutal Hunt

Before the Rocks Pirates and Roger caused chaos at God Valley, Garling topped the charts in the human hunting competition. As a high-ranking God’s Knight, he used overwhelming power to slaughter the weak swiftly. Ironically, when facing a true rival like Rocks D. Xebec, he was quickly defeated.

4. Killing Rocks D. Xebec While He Was Weakened

Rocks D. Xebec's death

The world believes Rocks died at the hands of Garp and Roger, but the truth is darker. Rocks was once controlled by Imu and turned into a mad demon. After Roger and Garp defeated Rocks to free him from Imu’s influence, Garling took advantage of Rocks’ exhaustion and inability to defend himself to deliver the final blow. A cowardly act disguised as heroism.

5. Extremist Views That Repulsed Shanks

Figarland Garling's extremist views

In Shanks’ memories, Garling once greeted his son warmly. But this welcome came with a cold declaration: those of lower status are not human. This dehumanizing belief disgusted Shanks and made him reject the Figarland bloodline, choosing to leave.

6. Executing Donquixote Mjosgard

Donquixote Mjosgard execution

Many fans hoped Garling had some remorse when executing Mjosgard. But the harsh truth is that, as an extremist who discriminates by class, Garling saw Mjosgard as “trash” for defending the Fish-Men. He killed his own kind without hesitation, crushing any hope for change within Mary Geoise.
