After years of only knowing key names like Gol D. Roger, Silvers Rayleigh, and Scopper Gaban, creator Eiichiro Oda has finally revealed the full roles of the main members of the Roger Pirates in the SBS section of volume 112. This new information not only gives fans a clearer picture of the legendary crew’s organization but also uncovers fascinating details about their journey to Laugh Tale.
Gol D. Roger, Legendary Captain

It’s no surprise that Gol D. Roger was the captain of the pirate crew named after him. He is the only known person to have led his crew to Laugh Tale, discovering the One Piece treasure and the world’s greatest secrets.
Roger was famous for his overwhelming strength, especially his mastery of the highest level of Conqueror’s Haki, and his ability to inspire his crew. His final words before execution sparked the beginning of the Pirate Era.
Silvers Rayleigh, First Mate

Known as the “Dark King,” Silvers Rayleigh served as the first mate and Roger’s trusted right hand. Beyond his top-tier strength, Rayleigh was the one who trained Luffy to master Haki after the Marineford War.
After the Roger Pirates disbanded, he lived in seclusion on the Sabaody Archipelago working as a ship coating specialist, yet his reputation still commanded respect from the Navy.
Scopper Gaban, Navigator

One of the most notable reveals from SBS volume 112 is that Scopper Gaban is officially confirmed as the navigator of the Roger Pirates.
Gaban had long been considered Roger’s “left hand,” but his exact role was a mystery until now. As navigator, he likely led the crew’s course alongside Kozuki Oden, using the Road Poneglyphs to chart their path to Laugh Tale.
His nickname “Mountain Eater” reflects his formidable power, wielding two massive axes capable of sweeping away enemies and devastating the surrounding terrain.
Crocus, Doctor

Crocus served as the Roger Pirates’ doctor during the final leg of their journey. He joined to care for Roger’s terminal illness and accompanied the crew all the way to Laugh Tale.
After Roger’s era ended, Crocus returned to Reverse Mountain, continuing to care for the whale Laboon and guarding the familiar lighthouse.
Less Known Members Finally Get Official Roles

Beyond the familiar faces, Oda also confirmed roles for several other members who have appeared less frequently in the manga:
Moon Isaac Jr.: Tactical Officer
Donquino: Helmsman
Millet Pine: Interrogation Specialist
Rowing: Scholar
Erio: Information Gatherer
Spencer: Intelligence Agent
Petermoo: Sharpshooter
Jacksonbanner: Musician
Blumarine: Shipwright
Interestingly, the Roger Pirates had a highly organized intelligence system. They included scholars, intelligence agents, informants, and interrogation experts, showing that Roger valued information as much as strength during their voyages.
Some Familiar Characters Are Missing From the List
However, several well-known figures were not included in this official lineup.
Shanks and Buggy are considered apprentices on the ship, learning from senior members rather than holding official positions.

Kozuki Oden also does not have a specific role within the Roger Pirates. Despite his immense power, he mainly served as the reader and translator of the Poneglyphs and recorded the entire journey in his famous diary.
Other members of Oden’s family, like Kozuki Toki, Momonosuke, Hiyori, as well as Nekomamushi and Inuarashi, accompanied the crew for a time but were not official members.
Meanwhile, Douglas Bullet, a character from the One Piece: Stampede movie, is not considered part of the official storyline.
