By 11 a.m. on December 18, Avatar: Fire and Ash had claimed the top spot in daily box office rankings according to Box Office Vietnam. The film quickly surpassed 10 billion VND, leaving competitors far behind. When comparing total earnings of all other films, Avatar: Fire and Ash outperformed them by 20 times, backed by a nationwide dominance in screening slots. Even the animated hit Zootopia 2 had to settle for second place, yielding the spotlight to its studio sibling.
Though not officially released yet, Avatar: Fire and Ash has already amassed 25 billion VND in revenue. Globally, the film is expected to help James Cameron maintain his streak of $2 billion worldwide grosses, securing its place among the highest-grossing blockbusters ever. This success also paves the way for parts 4 and 5 to move forward.
The story of Avatar: Fire and Ash continues from the previous chapter The Way of Water, focusing on the ongoing conflict between the Na’vi and the “Sky People”, Earth’s forces trying to seize the lush planet Pandora. This time, internal strife emerges among the Na’vi with the arrival of the Ash Clan, a group living on the fringes filled with resentment toward Eywa, the Mother of Life. Led by the female leader Varang, the Ash Clan becomes a key factor enabling the Sky People to turn the tide, putting Jake Sully’s Na’vi faction in dire straits.
Following the element of Water, the third Avatar film centers on Fire, symbolizing hatred, jealousy, and rage, as James Cameron has shared.
