Gege Akutami’s hit manga Jujutsu Kaisen, published in Weekly Shonen Jump, concluded in September 2024 at the height of its popularity. The author returned a year later with a short sequel manga titled Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, planned to run for about six months.
The story takes place 68 years after Ryomen Sukuna’s defeat and mainly follows new characters. The Jujutsu world faces a major threat again, fearing a war with the 50,000-strong Simurian, a powerful alien race who arrived in Japan as refugees. In this crisis, they need Yuji Itadori’s help more than ever.
While modern sorcerers are no longer as strong as before, Yuji, the key figure from 68 years ago, remains a mighty master. Chapter 10 briefly shows him with half his face hidden under a hood. It is clear he has not aged at all, possibly because his body changed after absorbing cursed objects in the original story. After the final chapter of this sequel, the story returns to the beginning, featuring Yuji’s grandfather’s last words.
Jujutsu Kaisen fans’ theory that Yuji’s grandfather cursed him might be true
Since the story is set 68 years after the original manga, most main characters have passed away. While Yuta and Maki died of old age, the fate of others remains unknown but likely similar.
On the other hand, Yuji is not only still alive but has not aged, probably thanks to the cursed objects he consumed in high school. Unfortunately, this immortality becomes a tragedy: he is trapped in an eternal body, forced to watch loved ones pass away while time stands still for him. This is completely opposite to what his grandfather wished.
With Yuji’s parents long gone, Wasuke Itadori, Yuji’s grandfather, raised him alone and hoped his grandson would not die lonely. Many fans speculate that Wasuke’s final words unintentionally cursed Yuji with immortality. In the sequel, Yuji is stronger than ever but utterly alone, hiding from the Jujutsu world for unknown reasons, a loneliness that starkly contrasts the hopes of both grandfather and grandson.
