Since season 2 wrapped up in the second quarter of 2025, millions of Solo Leveling fans have been eagerly asking, “When will season 3 finally arrive?” Now, the answer is out, but it has left the anime community with mixed feelings.
Although the producers have confirmed that season 3 is definitely in the works, the earliest possible release date is 2027, and it could be delayed until 2028.
Shocking details revealed in the financial report

This surprising news comes directly from the latest financial report of D&C Media, the Korean webtoon publisher and rights holder of the Solo Leveling franchise. The document confirms that the animation project for season 3 has been approved, but the release window is set for 2027 to 2028.
This means that after season 2 ended, fans will have to wait at least two to three more years before seeing Sung Jin-woo again.
The announcement immediately cooled fans’ high expectations. Everyone knows Solo Leveling was once one of the fastest-produced projects in the industry.
Season 1 premiered in January 2024, followed by season 2 in January 2025. Releasing 25 episodes within two years made fans believe that studio A-1 Pictures would maintain an annual release schedule until the very end. But reality has proven otherwise.
Exhaustion after the “miracle” of 220,000 frames

Explaining the delay, Sota Furuhashi, the Solo Leveling producer from Aniplex, expressed that the production team needs proper rest after two seasons that pushed them to their limits.
Behind the scenes, the workload was staggering. For just the first two seasons, the artists completed a record-breaking 220,000 frames. This is an enormous amount of work and pressure for any studio.
Additionally, looking at A-1 Pictures’ packed schedule from 2026 to 2027, experts believe that season 3 has yet to enter full production. The rapid yearly releases before were a rare miracle, not a sustainable standard.
In the Japanese anime industry, it’s normal for major hits to take two to three years to produce a new season. Solo Leveling returning to this pace is ultimately to protect the health of the artists and ensure the show’s quality.
Fan community reactions

Faced with the long wait, the fan community is sharply divided.
Most loyal viewers believe the wait is worth it as long as the animation quality remains top-notch, with breathtaking cinematic action scenes like the first two seasons. Sung Jin-woo’s journey to godhood deserves the highest production investment to make it worthwhile.
On the other hand, some worry about the fierce competition in today’s anime market, where new hits emerge every season. A three-year hiatus could cause Solo Leveling to lose momentum, fade from discussion forums, and see fans move on to trending shows.
Regardless of the debate, one thing is clear: Sung Jin-woo’s story is far from over!
