Batman vs Wolverine: Who Wins in the Latest DC-Marvel Crossover?

Batman and Wolverine face off in a new DC-Marvel comic, with one clear victor.

It has been 29 years since Wolverine and Batman merged to become the most famous superhero of the Amalgam universe, Logan Wayne, also known as Darkclaw. Now, Marvel and DC have teamed up once again to reunite these iconic characters in the new comic Marvel/DC: Batman/Deadpool.

This comic is a highly anticipated crossover event between the two biggest comic universes, featuring many surprising encounters. While Daredevil and Green Arrow join forces against The Hand, Wonder Woman and Captain America develop a romantic connection, and Rocket Raccoon swaps places with Hal Jordan.

Wolverine and Batman enter a deadly battle where only one will emerge victorious. An older, worn-down Batman from The Dark Knight Returns faces off against the aged Wolverine from Old Man Logan.

The short story titled “Showdown,” featured in Marvel/DC: Batman/Deadpool #1, is written by Frank Miller, the creator of The Dark Knight Returns. In it, Bruce Wayne and James Howlett fight each other one-on-one without any outside interference.

“Showdown” is the shortest story in the Batman/Deadpool #1 issue, showcasing Frank Miller’s signature raw, direct, and minimalist style. Most of the fight takes place in a dusty haze, accompanied by classic comic book sound effects like “Krak” and “Koom.”

Although the battle seems evenly matched, Batman ultimately wins by secretly attaching a bomb belt to Wolverine, defeating the mutant. However, Batman does not kill his opponent, and the reason why Wolverine’s adamantium claws don’t cause more serious damage remains unexplained.

Within the context of a hypothetical fight, this outcome makes sense. Batman uses his intelligence to gain the upper hand, while Wolverine is too caught up in the fight to notice the trap. This is even more plausible since both characters are portrayed as older versions of themselves.

In Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, Batman single-handedly defeated two of his greatest enemies: the Joker and Superman. The intense battle between Batman and the seasoned Man of Steel highlights how terrifying Bruce Wayne’s strategy and intellect can be.

If Batman can defeat Superman, facing an older, weaker Wolverine like Old Man Logan is well within his capabilities. This Wolverine is only a shadow of his prime self, with severely diminished healing abilities that leave him vulnerable and slow to recover.

The aged Wolverine frequently needs oxygen after fights with opponents he once easily defeated, such as Gorgon, Bullseye, and the Hulk Gang. Old Man Logan’s ferocity no longer matches the nearly unstoppable rage of the original Wolverine.

Although Wolverine’s claws could theoretically kill Batman in an instant, Bruce Wayne’s mind is always the deciding factor in any battle. In the DC universe, Batman has repeatedly overcome physically superior foes, from Bane and Killer Croc to entire teams like the Justice League.

Batman’s genius in exploiting his opponents’ weaknesses and his quick thinking with backup plans give him the edge over Wolverine. Once again, the Marvel and DC superhero worlds prove that intelligence can triumph over raw physical strength.
