The original Jujutsu Kaisen (JJK) manga concluded in 2024, but just months later, creator Gege Akutami shocked fans by launching a sequel titled Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo.
Set in the familiar world of JJK, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is still written by Gege Akutami but illustrated by a different artist. Though only seven chapters have been released so far, this fresh spin-off has already delivered some highly intriguing revelations.
The biggest shock came in chapter 7 of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo: the classic JJK villain Mahito has officially returned! After being absorbed and presumed dead following the Shibuya incident, Mahito appears trapped in a limbo-like state, with a resurrection on the horizon. He could be the first major enemy to pave the way for the return of other villains in JJK Modulo, including Ryomen Sukuna.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Brings Back an Iconic Villain
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is quickly becoming the eagerly awaited next chapter of JJK. Set 68 years after the final battle with Sukuna, it focuses on new characters, specifically Maki and Yuta’s grandchildren, Tsurugi and Yuka Okkotsu.

While familiar faces from the old era have yet to appear much, fans are confident Gege will bring back these icons soon. Indeed, chapter 7 of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo delivered an unexpected shock: Mahito has officially reemerged.
After a brutal battle, Tsurugi falls unconscious but his mind drifts into a strange dream where Mahito appears. This cruel curse seems to linger somewhere between life and death in a haunting limbo. Despite this, Mahito’s potential resurrection and return to the story remain a clear threat.
Notably, in this dream, Mahito repeatedly mentions someone “not himself” (likely the person he’s speaking to, possibly Tsurugi). This suggests Mahito is searching for a specific individual, an obsession. Based on brief flashbacks in Modulo, this person is very likely Yuji, a mysterious character fans have glimpsed before.
Mahito’s words seem to mark not only his own official return but also Yuji Itadori’s. They confirm Yuji is still alive, hinting at an epic rematch between these two characters.
Other Characters Gege Might Bring Back

With Gege’s shocking move to bring Mahito back, fans wonder if he is the first of many returning characters, especially villains.
While nothing is certain yet, there’s a strong possibility Gege will also bring Sukuna back in some form. Sukuna’s final wish was to choose a different path if given the chance, and Modulo could be the perfect place to explore that. Sukuna might be resurrected, or new secrets about his last finger could be revealed. Either way, fans will need to keep reading Modulo to see what Gege has in store.
“This became the spark that ignited the creation of Mojuro, which initially didn’t even have a concrete idea. After many planning meetings, it finally came to life. This will be a short series, about half a year, compiled into roughly three volumes.”, Gege Akutami.
