Kaiju fans are buzzing with excitement over the upcoming third film in the MonsterVerse crossover series. Although filming is reportedly complete, audiences will still need to wait a while longer to see the King of Monsters reunite with the Skull Island ruler. No teasers have been released yet, but a leak from a reputable source has nearly confirmed the identity of the ultimate villain in Supernova.
According to the latest update from the Writers Guild of America West (WGA West), the opponent that Kong and Godzilla will face has been revealed. In the list of original Toho source materials that MonsterVerse draws from, WGA included the name SpaceGodzilla.
Legendary has yet to officially confirm this, but the Writers Guild’s inclusion of this dark clone of Godzilla strongly suggests his presence in the film. SpaceGodzilla is certainly a threat big enough and dangerous enough to force the two reluctant kings, Godzilla and Kong, to join forces once again.
Who is SpaceGodzilla and how powerful is he?

For viewers unfamiliar with Toho’s originals, SpaceGodzilla is a terrifying extraterrestrial entity. He first appeared in the 1994 film Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla, created when Godzilla’s DNA was lost in space and combined with alien crystals and energy from a black hole.
Sporting a spiky appearance with two massive crystals on his shoulders, SpaceGodzilla not only has Godzilla’s physical strength but also psychic powers, the ability to fly, and can generate nearly impenetrable crystal shields. Since his debut in 1994, he has appeared frequently in video games, novels, and comics, but this will be his first official return to the screen in over 30 years.

Since the Supernova title was announced, many hardcore fans have speculated about a cosmic threat. After Mechagodzilla, Rodan, and King Ghidorah made impressive returns in the MonsterVerse, a redesigned SpaceGodzilla promises a visually explosive debut.
Legendary has set the release date for Godzilla x Kong: Supernova on March 26, 2027. However, Kaiju enthusiasts won’t have to wait in vain. Next year, the series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will return on Apple TV+. Early trailers suggest a host of new monsters are ready to ramp up the excitement ahead of the epic showdown in 2027.
