One Piece chapter 1167, titled “Ida’s Child,” dives deeper into the tragic past and hidden secrets of the World Government. This chapter not only confirms Shanks’ new identity but also shows Prince Loki’s emotional breakdown in Elbaf.

Shanks’ secret connection to the World Government
In a flashback, Harald is assigned by the World Government to secretly assist the Navy in defeating pirates, as part of atoning for the “thousand-year sins of the giant tribe.” Harald is promoted by the Five Elders to become the “Devoted Blade of God,” a trusted member of the God Knights, and receives a tattoo on his left arm.
About 15 years ago, during Fisher Tiger’s escape from Mary Geoise, Hancock and her two sisters were also rescued. A mysterious figure helped Fisher Tiger while he was freeing slaves, and it is clearly Shanks.
A few days later, Harald arrives at the Holy Land and sees Shanks talking with Shamrock in the city. Shanks now lives in Mary Geoise alongside Garling and Shamrock. He wears the God Knight uniform like them and has a bandage over his left eye (the chapter does not explain the injury). They are discussing the Fisher Tiger incident.
Shanks (called Saint Shanks, Devoted Blade of God) angrily tells Shamrock: “How could anyone understand the feeling of wasting 24 years of my life!! No wonder I always felt like I didn’t belong there… Everything is disgusting!”
Garling introduces Shamrock and Shanks to Harald. Harald tries to start a conversation, but Shanks insults him as a “nobody,” clearly showing the arrogance of a World Noble.
The tragedy of Loki’s family and his intense rage
In Elbaf, Ida is gravely ill but refuses to contact Harald to avoid distracting him from his mission. Loki is worried but hides his feelings. Ida tells her close friend that although Loki is not her biological child, he is her precious son.
At the end of the chapter, Loki discovers that the Brewers village (Estrid’s hometown) poisoned Ida with a toxic mold on their grain to take revenge for Estrid. The giant from Brewers says: “I’m talking about how ridiculous it is to let an outsider woman like her become Queen! You must agree, Loki! That’s why I poisoned her… with ergot. No one can save her now, her fate is sealed!”
In the final double-page spread, Loki destroys the Brewers village. The entire village is engulfed in flames as Loki grabs the giant who poisoned Ida: “Ida won’t die from this, right…? I clearly remember my own mother threw me into the Underworld because she hated me! What treasure? This is a worthless tribe! Ida must not die! She’s the only one… I call mother!”
The chapter ends with Loki burning in a sea of rage. The next chapter will be released next week.
