One Piece’s new opening is packed with Easter eggs and surprises!

Beyond its catchy tune, the new opening of the One Piece anime is visually stunning, matching the quality of the latest episodes. True to its title “Carmine,” this Egghead Arc opening is filled with hidden details, flashbacks, and references, many of which flash by in an instant.

19. Bonney Finally Finds Nika

Bonney recognizing Luffy as Nika

It’s no exaggeration to say that Bonney realizing Luffy is Nika is one of the most anticipated moments in the Egghead Arc. Kuma’s tragic past highlighted Nika’s importance to both Bonney and Kuma, and the opening song finally shows her connecting with Luffy and Gear 5.

18. Mock Town Mocks Vegapunk

Mock Town residents watching Vegapunk's broadcast

Among the many watching Vegapunk’s posthumous broadcast are the residents of Mock Town. Unsurprisingly, they continue to mock and scoff at Vegapunk’s outrageous claims and revelations. Clearly, nothing has changed since the Straw Hats first arrived in Mock Town.

17. Totto Land

Totto Land characters gathered around the Den Den Mushi

Another major location featured in the opening is Totto Land, where many residents gather around the Den Den Mushi, including Charlotte Katakuri, Charlotte Brownie, and even Charlotte Moscato, who was thought to have died after Big Mom took her soul.

16. Pirate Island

Although no familiar faces appear, Pirate Island also makes an appearance in the new opening, suggesting things have somewhat settled after the battle between Kuzan and Garp.

15. Sabaody Archipelago

Bubbles of Sabaody Archipelago

A brief shot reminiscent of the Marineford Arc shows Sabaody Archipelago, identifiable by the signature bubbles that always float around the island.

14. Karakuri Island

Baldimore on Karakuri Island

Another surprise location is Karakuri Island, specifically Baldimore, not only Vegapunk’s hometown but also where Franky spent much of the two-year timeskip.

13. Marijois

Even Marijois is paying attention to Vegapunk’s message in the new opening, with several Celestial Dragons gathered around the Den Den Mushi and a projection screen. This includes Saint Shalria, recognizable by her golden hair on the left side.

12. Navy Headquarters

Navy officers watching Vegapunk's broadcast

The new opening even checks in on Navy Headquarters, where several marines are watching Vegapunk’s broadcast. No familiar faces appear, likely because most Vice Admirals have been deployed to Egghead.

11. World Economic Journal

Vivi and Morgans watching Vegapunk's broadcast

Vivi makes her first brief appearance in the new opening, seen with Morgans and staff at the World Economic Journal watching Vegapunk’s broadcast. Easily missed, Wapol can also be spotted behind Morgans on the right. Another fun detail fans might have overlooked is the poster of the Four Emperors’ bounties above the projection screen.

10. Zou and Mokomo Kingdom

Minks from Zou in the new opening

Some Mink Tribe members from Zou also appear, including Wanda, Shishilian, and Carrot, who was recently appointed ruler of the Mokomo Kingdom.

9. Dressrosa

Kyros, Rebecca, Leo, and Kabu watching Vegapunk's broadcast in Dressrosa

Kyros, Rebecca, Leo, and Kabu, who seem to have returned from the Reverie Conference, also appear watching Vegapunk’s broadcast in Dressrosa. Seeing various locations across the One Piece world highlights the importance of this mysterious broadcast and Vegapunk’s revelations.

8. Dragon at Loguetown

Dragon's cameo at Loguetown

Dragon’s rare appearances are over. As One Piece enters its Final Saga, Dragon steps into the story’s forefront, playing a more active role and executing secret plans. His cameo in the opening is actually from his first appearance in the series at Loguetown, deepening the decade-long suspicion that the lightning that saved Luffy then was no coincidence.

7. Straw Hats Hear Luffy’s Dream

Straw Hats reacting to Luffy's dream

A more recent flashback in the opening recalls the first moment of the Egghead Arc when Luffy finally shares his true dream with the Straw Hats. Fans still have a long way to go to decode this mystery, but it’s fascinating to see the entire crew’s reaction in a single frame.

6. Luffy’s First Meeting with Blackbeard

Luffy's first encounter with Blackbeard

Beyond the Mock Town cameo, the new opening also revisits Luffy’s first meeting with Blackbeard and the iconic moment when Blackbeard says, “A man’s dream never ends.”

5. Luffy Sets Sail

Luffy's first voyage flashback

Another nostalgic flashback in the latest opening takes fans back to the very start of Luffy’s journey, when he first set sail and raised his hand to the sky. These flashbacks stand out visually from the rest of the opening, featuring a more nostalgic watercolor art style.

4. Straw Hats Declare Their Dreams

Straw Hats declaring their dreams

The most nostalgic scene in the Egghead opening shows the Straw Hats declaring their dreams, their feet together on a barrel as they enter the Grand Line. Interestingly, fans might not have to wait long to see this moment in Netflix’s One Piece live-action season 2.

3. Ace and Yamato’s Flashbacks

Surprisingly, the new opening also references flashbacks of Ace and Yamato from the Wano Arc, once again contrasting Sabo, Ace, and Luffy with Oden, Whitebeard, and Roger.

2. Roger at His Execution

Gol D. Roger's execution scene

The new One Piece opening wouldn’t feel complete without recalling the moment and man who started it all. The transition from Luffy’s near-execution at Loguetown to Roger’s execution perfectly closes the opening and gives it the feeling of the beginning of the end as One Piece enters its final saga.

1. Joyboy and Emet

Joyboy with Emet in the title sequence

Although fans might initially mistake this for Luffy or a current scene of Luffy and the Iron Giant, the Straw Hat-wearing figure seen with Emet in the title segment is actually Joyboy. The detail that Emet has horns and appears free of rust or moss is a major clue. In fact, the hand reaching for the Straw Hat at the end of the opening may also belong to Joyboy.
