Why Gachiakuta is the perfect successor to Naruto
If there’s a new anime on Crunchyroll worthy of continuing Naruto’s legacy, it’s Gachiakuta, produced by studio Bones. Although the story is completely different, both series focus on children rejected by society as monsters. The protagonist of Gachiakuta, Rudo, seeks revenge, while Naruto longs for respect. This difference makes Gachiakuta a darker, grittier take on Naruto.
The similarities extend to the power systems. Gachiakuta’s Giver system and key tools create an interesting parallel to Naruto’s chakra and ninjutsu. Both shows use simple core concepts to deliver creative action scenes that are always thrilling to watch.
Additionally, both Gachiakuta and Naruto share messages about overcoming adversity and realizing you are not alone. Despite its darker tone, Gachiakuta carries the same seriousness and depth as Naruto, promising to become a popular hit in the future.
Why Boruto can’t live up to Naruto’s legacy
Compared to Boruto, it’s clear that Gachiakuta better inherits Naruto’s legacy. Boruto has tried to address criticism about Naruto’s over-the-top action, but it often goes too far, making battles in the manga dull and lacking tension.
Boruto also falls short in writing. New characters are less interesting than the originals, and returning characters are sadly underused. The pacing and themes of Boruto don’t match Naruto’s impact. Unlike Gachiakuta, Boruto has little to compensate for these shortcomings.
Naruto may not need a successor, but if there is one, Gachiakuta is a far better choice than Boruto. It honors Naruto’s story while bringing its own unique edge, promising to be a major hit for years to come.
