For example, the subtle difference between pink and red that I see can look identical when watching anime at home. I started running out of colors to differentiate characters and themed settings.”
To solve this, Yamashiro decided that for Season 2, he would focus less on color changes and more on visual style and texture. For example, some scenes feature rough finishes resembling oil paintings.
He explained his experiment: “So instead of just playing with colors, I introduced different visual textures to Dandadan. This season, you’ll notice some cuts with rougher finishes, like oil paintings instead of watercolors. This change gives scenes a completely different feel through texture rather than color. This is my big experiment this season.”
Some of this can be seen as early as episode 14, where Dandadan Season 2 used creative and beautiful animation techniques, proving Yamashiro’s experiment was even more successful than expected.
