5 Darkest Moments of Vegeta in Dragon Ball History

Vegeta’s past as a ruthless killer contrasts sharply with his heroic role today in Dragon Ball.

Over the decades, Dragon Ball Z has introduced countless characters, but few have left as strong an impact as Prince Vegeta. From a terrifying villain, Vegeta spent years transforming into one of the most honorable heroes. However, his path to redemption was far from easy, as his past is filled with cold-blooded mistakes.

Since his humiliating defeat by Goku in the Saiyan Saga, Vegeta has been obsessed with surpassing his rival. The pride of a Saiyan prince would never allow him to fall behind someone of lower status. Yet no matter how hard he tried, Goku always stayed one step ahead. This arrogance pushed Vegeta into ruthless actions that even his most loyal fans struggle to justify.

Here are the five darkest moments proving Vegeta was a true “demon” before becoming the family man we see in Dragon Ball Super.

5. Neglecting his family in the early days

In Dragon Ball Super, we see a devoted Vegeta who deeply loves his wife and children, but things were very different in Dragon Ball Z. After the Frieza Saga, even though he had a son with Bulma, his obsession with power overshadowed everything. Vegeta left Bulma and Trunks alone for a long time to train obsessively. Sadly, he never even hugged his son Trunks until the boy was eight years old.

4. Willingly letting Babidi corrupt him into Majin Vegeta

Seven years after Cell’s defeat, Vegeta’s desire to surpass Goku became dangerously extreme. He deliberately allowed Babidi’s dark magic to take control just to gain a “dirty” power boost. This selfish choice indirectly awakened Majin Buu, plunging Earth into a catastrophic threat all for a personal duel.

3. Enabling Cell to reach his Perfect form

After emerging from the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, Vegeta was strong enough to finish off Semi-Perfect Cell. Instead of saving the world, he chose to satisfy his pride by letting Cell absorb Android 18. He even ignored the desperate pleas of Future Trunks. This arrogance cost him his life and led to Goku’s sacrifice later on.

2. Massacre of innocent spectators during the Martial Arts Tournament

To force Goku into a fight, Majin Vegeta didn’t hesitate to unleash a devastating attack that killed hundreds of innocent spectators in the stands. Although they were later revived by the Dragon Balls, this remains one of the most brutal moments in the series. It shows that when his pride is wounded, Vegeta is willing to trample on the lives of the weak.

1. Massacre of an entire Namekian village

Vegeta destroys a Namekian village

This is the most horrific crime Vegeta ever committed. During the search for the Dragon Balls on Namek, he wiped out an entire village, killing around 20 residents, from elders to children. The tragic part is these victims were never revived.

The Namekians’ wish was to resurrect those killed by Frieza and his army. Since Vegeta had defected and acted independently at that time, his victims were painfully forgotten by the Dragon Balls.
