After much anticipation, Amazon’s live-action adaptation of the hit game God of War has officially unveiled its impressive cast. Notably, the role of Kratos goes to a familiar yet surprising face for fans of the franchise.
Under the guidance of showrunner Ronald D. Moore (known for Outlander) and director Frederick E.O. Toye (Shōgun, The Boys), the God of War series will closely follow the storyline of the 2018 Norse mythology game. Filming is set to begin in Vancouver later this year, with huge expectations from the gaming community.
1. Ryan Hurst as Kratos

The biggest twist is here! Ryan Hurst, who previously did motion capture and voice work for Thor in God of War Ragnarök, has officially been cast as the live-action Kratos. With his powerful build and sharp features, Hurst promises to portray a mature, brooding Kratos who still commands immense strength when facing the Norse gods.
2. Mandy Patinkin as Odin

The “godfather” of Asgard will be played by veteran actor Mandy Patinkin. Unlike the muscular appearance, Odin in this series is portrayed as a cunning, manipulative, and extremely dangerous figure. He will surely be the most formidable opponent Kratos must watch out for while protecting his son Atreus.
3. Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor

After Ryan Hurst switched to Kratos, the role of Thor goes to Ólafur Darri Ólafsson. With a towering presence, Ólafsson fits perfectly as the god of thunder, a heavy drinker, deeply troubled, yet hiding devastating power beneath his reckless exterior.
4. Teresa Palmer as Sif

The star of A Discovery of Witches will play Thor’s intelligent and determined wife. In the series, Sif is not just a beautiful woman but a strong, smart figure trying to steer her family through crisis as her husband sinks deeper into drinking and arrogance.
5. Max Parker as Heimdall

Max Parker will take on the role of Heimdall, the all-seeing god. With his handsome yet arrogant look, Parker’s Heimdall is sure to be the most disliked character, constantly causing trouble for Kratos and Atreus with his pride and blind loyalty to Odin.
6. Alastair Duncan as Mimir

Great news for fans: Alastair Duncan, who voiced Mimir in the games, will reprise his role in the live-action series. With his distinctive voice and comedic timing, the “world’s smartest head” will remain an essential companion to Kratos.
7. Danny Woodburn as Brok

The gruff but talented blacksmith Brok will be played by Danny Woodburn. With his rich acting experience, Woodburn is expected to deliver the character’s sharp dialogue and comedic moments that fans love.
8. Jeff Gulka as Sindri

The final piece is Jeff Gulka as Sindri, the cleanliness-obsessed younger brother. The dynamic between the rough-around-the-edges Brok and the germophobic Sindri promises plenty of entertaining moments to lighten the intense divine battles.
With Amazon’s serious investment, God of War is poised to become the next The Last of Us in the world of adaptations.
