Frieza is one of the most iconic villains in the anime world. If Dragon Ball ever got a live-action movie (assuming Dragon Ball Evolution never happened), Frieza would definitely play a major role.
All the actors listed below are incredibly skilled at playing villains. They each possess the qualities needed to bring to life Frieza, the ruthless tyrant feared across the universe.
1. Willem Dafoe

Willem Dafoe is one of the most recognizable actors, famously known for his role as Green Goblin in Spider-Man. He has played many villains, from criminals to psychopaths, always managing to create a tense atmosphere.
Dafoe’s iconic sinister smile would be a highlight if he were cast as Frieza. His angular face and ability to modulate his voice with menace make him a formidable threat. Since some of Frieza’s most chilling moments come from his silent smile just before destroying a planet, Dafoe could leave a uniquely terrifying mark.
2. Christoph Waltz

Christoph Waltz left a lasting impression as Colonel Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds. That performance earned him an Oscar thanks to his cold, unpredictable presence. He is perfect to portray Frieza’s manic personality and uncontrollable rage.
Frieza carries himself with a refined, regal tone, which fits Waltz’s previous roles where he played noble characters hiding a deadly threat behind their eyes. His flawless delivery would make Frieza’s terrifying nature feel all the more real.
3. Leonardo DiCaprio

Leonardo DiCaprio has shown his range with roles like the brutal slave owner Calvin Candie in Django Unchained. He has also played villains in The Man in the Iron Mask and recently in Killers of the Flower Moon.
DiCaprio’s mix of charm and instability suits Frieza perfectly. The character often uses a pleasant demeanor to mask cruelty, along with dark humor. DiCaprio could make Frieza even more iconic, especially in transformation scenes.
4. Ralph Fiennes

For many, Ralph Fiennes will always be remembered as Voldemort, the ultimate villain of the Harry Potter series. Fiennes speaks softly and elegantly but still exudes menace. Frieza shares similar traits, making him a believable villain.
Fiennes also portrayed Amon Göth in Schindler’s List, a performance praised for its disturbing humanity and subtle cruelty. His cold, indifferent threat and piercing gaze are exactly what Frieza needs, especially since the character is a perfectionist who can sentence others to death for the smallest mistakes.
5. Mads Mikkelsen

Mads Mikkelsen’s Hannibal is the pinnacle of a sophisticated and cunning villain. He has portrayed similar characters in major franchises like James Bond and Indiana Jones. His sharp features and intense eyes create a silent but terrifying presence.
Frieza’s refined demeanor and formal tone would suit Mikkelsen perfectly. He is a master at showing inhumanity while maintaining a civilized exterior. His minimalist acting style could even make Frieza a more nuanced villain.
6. Hugo Weaving

Hugo Weaving has played a range of villains, including Agent Smith in The Matrix, Red Skull in Captain America, and the voice of Megatron in Transformers. His expert voice control would ensure Dragon Ball’s dramatic villain is portrayed perfectly.
Weaving could adapt his voice to match Frieza’s various transformations, and his experience as Megatron means Frieza’s evil monologues would be even more chilling. He would be ideal for this action-packed series.
7. James McAvoy

Don’t let Professor X’s calm appearance fool you into thinking James McAvoy only plays positive characters. His role as Kevin Wendell Crumb, a man with multiple personalities in Split, showed how quickly he can change expressions, mannerisms, and body language.
McAvoy’s threatening, evil laugh fits Frieza well, and his unstable expressions stand out. He has plenty of experience playing manipulative characters, which would come together perfectly in Frieza, the alien responsible for the Saiyan genocide who still commands his own Saiyan army.
8. David Tennant

David Tennant has played a polite fallen angel in Good Omens and a charming Doctor Who. Yet his most terrifying performances were as Kilgrave in Jessica Jones and Barty Crouch Jr. in Harry Potter. Tennant enjoys playing characters without guilt or remorse.
Frieza is exactly the kind of character Tennant would relish. The Dragon Ball villain is cold, calculating, and capable of killing millions on a planet without a shred of remorse. Tennant could portray this unsettling villain with complete abandon.
9. Tom Felton

Tom Felton played the arrogant, privileged bully Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter series. In many ways, Frieza is just like Malfoy, but with supernatural powers and a tail. Frieza is a bully through and through, with enough power to ensure no one dares defy him.
Since his Harry Potter days, Felton has matured with many other roles. Still, his traits fit Frieza’s original form perfectly. Felton wouldn’t even need to create a new persona, he just has to channel that familiar arrogance to bring Frieza to life.
