Conan Movie 28 just had its first early screenings in Vietnam last weekend and immediately sparked a box office frenzy. This installment has been praised for its gripping, tight storyline and especially the impressive transformation of Detective Mori. In Vietnam, the film has already earned nearly 50 billion VND within just two days of early screenings, making it likely to become the highest-grossing Conan movie ever in the Vietnamese market.
One of the highlights of each Conan movie is the subtle hints about Conan’s love life, and Movie 28 is no exception. This time, the film features fewer romantic subplots, even among supporting characters. But that doesn’t mean they’re absent. Conan openly shows his infatuation with Ran. Early in the film, Conan’s heart races when Ran carefully ties a bow-shaped scarf around his neck. Even though the bulky scarf doesn’t really suit him, he keeps it on throughout the entire investigation.
Another clear sign of Conan’s favoritism toward Ran over Haibara appears in this movie. Conan chooses to go watch a soccer game with Ran instead of hanging out with Haibara and the Detective Boys. This decisive choice leaves Haibara visibly jealous, while fans of the Conan-Ran pairing go wild with excitement.
Aside from these moments, both Ran and Haibara have limited screen time and influence on the case in this film. The story focuses more on Conan, Mori, and Inspector Yamato Kansuke. Set against the snowy mountains of Nagano, the movie takes viewers on a journey to uncover the truth behind a mysterious case, an unfulfilled promise, and the inspector’s haunting memories.
Rather than relying heavily on fan service, Movie 28 emphasizes the classic Conan elements of layered deduction and mystery-solving. With this approach, even small romantic hints between Ran and Conan are enough to satisfy fans.
