Fortunately, although the franchise has not officially confirmed anything, news of a major upcoming event hints at a significant anime update.
Dragon Ball Super anime could return in April 2026
Dragon Ball Super may announce its return in April 2026 during the DRAGON BALL Games Battle Hour 2026 event, scheduled for April 19-20, 2026 in Los Angeles.
DRAGON BALL Games Battle Hour is an annual event focused mainly on games and tournaments, but it has previously revealed major anime news, including the latest Dragon Ball anime, Dragon Ball Daima. This makes it likely that Toei Animation will share a new update on the TV anime at this event.
This time, the chances of Dragon Ball Super returning seem very high, as the event’s information page teased a major anime update:
“We will provide the latest information and excitement about ‘Dragon Ball,’ a brand that continues to develop in many forms including the original manga, anime, movies, games, characters, and toys for fans worldwide.”
Unfortunately, since the event has not been officially confirmed yet, fans should remain cautious about this information.
What makes Dragon Ball Super’s return likely?
Since Dragon Ball Super ended, the franchise has released two movies (Broly and Super Heroes) and an original TV anime (Dragon Ball Daima). This suggests that a follow-up to Dragon Ball Super has always been planned.
What makes the anime’s return even more likely is a statement from Executive Producer Akio Iyoku. After Dragon Ball Daima concluded, Iyoku spoke in an interview about how the story will continue in the future:
“Did you enjoy Daima? After this work, of course, we are currently working hard to push many things forward. The ‘Dragon Ball’ series will continue from here, so everyone, please keep watching by all means.”, Akio Iyoku
Although the teaser for DRAGON BALL Games Battle Hour alone may not be enough to confirm the anime’s return, Iyoku’s words strongly support it. More importantly, Iyoku previously mentioned that Dragon Ball Daima was not meant to celebrate the 40th anniversary. According to him, its release timing was just a coincidence.
Therefore, there is still a chance the franchise will soon announce an anime to mark this milestone, and fans can only hope that announcement will be about the next chapter of Dragon Ball Super.
