In the early hours of July 9, Warner Bros. officially released the first poster and trailer for Dune: Part Three, providing the most comprehensive glimpse yet at the epic finale of Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi trilogy. With its grand scale, star-studded cast, and dramatic reveals, the film is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated cinematic events of 2026.

Alongside the trailer release, director Denis Villeneuve and lead actor Timothée Chalamet attended a special presentation in Los Angeles.
Dune: Part Three is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
Paul Atreides Faces the Cost of Power

The new installment is set nearly 20 years after Paul Atreides seized control of the Empire.
No longer the young man driven by revenge, Paul has become a powerful yet isolated Emperor. He must confront the consequences of the interstellar holy war he ignited, while facing betrayals and forces aiming to overthrow his throne.
Old allies return and new threats emerge. Meanwhile, Chani takes center stage in a secret that could change everything.
Haunted by visions of the Empire’s collapse and the fate of loved ones, Paul must face the true price of power and make choices that will determine the destiny of the galaxy.
Trailer Reveals a Different Paul
The trailer shows a weary, tormented Paul Atreides after a bloody conflict. Gone is the decisive and strong-willed figure from previous films, replaced by a man with sorrowful eyes and moments of uncertainty.
“The future always tries to speak to me. But I cannot see what lies ahead,” Timothée Chalamet’s character admits in the trailer.
The preview ends with the Emperor’s anguished plea: “Please forgive me for all that I have done.”
These lines suggest the final film will focus more on Paul’s inner struggles rather than just large-scale battles.
Robert Pattinson Joins as New Villain

One of the most notable additions is Robert Pattinson playing Scytale.
Scytale is a shape-shifting antagonist plotting to overthrow the Emperor through a sweeping reform.
This film also marks the third time this year that Robert Pattinson and Zendaya appear together in a movie, following The Drama and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.
Anya Taylor-Joy and Jason Momoa Play Key Roles
After a brief appearance at the end of Part Two, Anya Taylor-Joy officially takes on the role of Alia Atreides in the new film. At this point, Alia has matured and become a loyal supporter of her brother.
Timothée Chalamet praised his co-star:
“She is breathtakingly beautiful and absolutely extraordinary in this film. I’m not exaggerating. She’s both terrifying and amazing.”

Another surprise is the return of Duncan Idaho, played by Jason Momoa. The character who sacrificed himself to protect House Atreides in the first film will be revived in the final chapter. However, this comeback is not a simple miracle but part of Scytale’s plan to manipulate Paul into a deep psychological crisis.
Denis Villeneuve Promises Emotional Depth and Action

Director Denis Villeneuve revealed the final chapter will have a faster pace than the previous two. He described it as the most action-packed installment, while also the most personal, focusing on the relationship between Paul and Chani amid the pressures of power and political turmoil.
Timothée Chalamet confirmed the film stays true to the spirit of Frank Herbert’s novel Dune Messiah.
The actor explained that Herbert wrote the book as a warning against idolizing charismatic leaders and to show how even the best people can be corrupted by power.

Reflecting on his journey with the Dune franchise since 2019, Chalamet shared he would remind himself to cherish every moment, as few film projects combine such grand scale with significant artistic value.
Closing one of the most acclaimed sci-fi trilogies of the decade, Dune: Part Three is expected to deliver a fitting conclusion to Paul Atreides’ saga and become a blockbuster hit at the end of 2026.
