Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Ends with Cryptic Message from Akutami

Recently, the Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo sequel manga, a project scripted by Gege Akutami and illustrated by Yuji Iwasaki, officially concluded in March 2026. Starting its run in September 2025, Modulo was announced as a short story planned to last six months with only three volumes. Despite its huge popularity, the series stuck to its schedule, releasing the final volume on May 1, 2026.

An unfinished ending and unresolved mysteries

The final events of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo focus on Maru and Yuji Itadori’s efforts to establish an era of peaceful coexistence, despite the dire situation following Yakumaru’s attack on Cross. The battle between Dabura and Yuka ends without a clear victor, as Maru intervenes and takes Dabura to Simuria to save Yuka’s life.

What leaves fans restless is the ambiguous ending. Even in the last released volume, the story remains unresolved. Although the plot hints that Dabura has returned to Earth because of Kyoko, no reunion scene is confirmed. Instead, the final volume compensates readers with new illustrations and heartfelt messages from the two creators.

Gege Akutami: “I’m proud to have created Modulo”

In the afterword, Gege Akutami shared his worries about mixed reactions from fans of the original series. Notably, Akutami left a thought-provoking message:

“Anyone can feel discriminatory emotions or cruel thoughts arise in their mind. Perhaps there will come a time when even I am controlled by those impulses. Despite my flaws, I am proud to have created ‘Modulo’ as a final milestone before I lose myself.”

This statement shows that Modulo is not just an extension of the story but a deeply personal work for Akutami. It also subtly suggests that there may be no more sequels or spin-offs written by him in the future.

What’s next for the Jujutsu Kaisen franchise?

Although the main manga ended in 2024 and Modulo has just wrapped up, the Jujutsu Kaisen universe is far from over.

Regarding the anime, MAPPA is preparing for season 4, expected to premiere next year, continuing the Culling Game arc before moving into the final arc.

Following a special promotional video from MAPPA for Modulo’s final episode, a short anime series adaptation of this sequel is almost guaranteed.

Additionally, a new spin-off novel project is underway, written by renowned horror author Yumeaki Hirayama under Akutami’s supervision.

While Gege Akutami’s direct involvement with new chapters may have ended, with a packed schedule from anime to novels, Jujutsu Kaisen is set to remain a dominant force in entertainment for years to come.
