The movie Kimetsu no Yaiba: Infinity Castle is expected to deliver the most epic and emotional finale for the entire series.
The first film in this trilogy runs for two hours and 35 minutes, directly continuing from the Pillars Training arc. After cornering Kibutsuji Muzan, the demon slayers are drawn into the Infinity Castle, his secret lair. There, they face the Upper Moons before confronting the Demon King once again.
This film features the highly anticipated showdown between Akaza and Kamado Tanjiro, a battle predicted to be the peak of the entire trilogy. Akaza, who killed Kyojuro Rengoku in the Mugen Train movie, remains a beloved villain. Now, his full backstory will be revealed, making it one of the most heartbreaking tales in Kimetsu no Yaiba.
Akaza: The Most Tragic Story in Kimetsu no Yaiba
Kimetsu no Yaiba is filled with tear-jerking moments, especially through backstories that reveal the broken world these characters live in. Whether demon slayers or demons, many have struggled and suffered in a harsh world. However, Akaza’s past, when he was human as Hakuji, stands out as the most tragic, as his life was marked by relentless pain.
As a human, Hakuji often stole to buy medicine for his sick father. Branded a thief by society, his father could no longer bear the burden he placed on his son and took his own life. Desperate and with nowhere to turn, Hakuji was taken in by martial artist Keizo. There, he found a home and fell in love with Keizo’s daughter, Koyuki. Despite his dark past, Hakuji finally found happiness with his new family.
But tragedy struck again when a rival dojo poisoned the well, killing Keizo and Koyuki. Overcome with grief and with nothing left to lose, Hakuji killed everyone involved. It was at this moment that Muzan discovered him and turned him into a demon.
After becoming a demon, Akaza should have lost all memories, but a small part of his humanity remained. The tattoos on Akaza’s body serve as reminders of his human past before meeting Koyuki, similar to the tattoos he had as a thief. Even the patterns that appear when Akaza activates his Blood Demon Art resemble the hairpins Koyuki once wore. His violent urges when it comes to killing and eating women stem from the lingering part of his humanity that still loves and deeply cares for Koyuki.
Akaza’s Tearful Farewell Closes the Series’ Best Battle
The battle between Akaza, Giyuu, and Tanjiro in the Infinity Castle is considered one of the most intense and emotional fights in Kimetsu no Yaiba. Both demon slayers fought evenly with Akaza, growing significantly stronger throughout the fight. Giyuu overcame Akaza’s psychological barriers and awakened the Demon Slayer Mark, while Tanjiro unlocked the unique power granted by the Breath of the Sun.
Interweaving Akaza’s tragic past made the battle even more heartrending. As Giyuu and Tanjiro neared exhaustion, Akaza prepared for a devastating final attack. Suddenly, memories of his human life flooded back, and he saw Koyuki begging him to stop. In that moment, Akaza destroyed himself and thanked Tanjiro before turning to dust. The battle ends with a tearful reunion between Akaza and Koyuki in the afterlife, offering a bittersweet yet hopeful conclusion for this tragic villain.
