My Hero Academia Anime May Censor Deku’s Upcoming Major Injury
The final season of My Hero Academia is now airing, looking more thrilling and intense than ever. There’s no doubt Studio Bones is going all out to deliver a spectacular conclusion to Kohei Horikoshi’s decade-long series.
Still, the anime might disappoint fans by cutting out Deku’s serious upcoming injury, and frankly, they might have no other choice.
The latest episode adapts the manga up to chapter 413, meaning fans will soon witness Deku losing both arms due to the Decay quirk. This injury appears in chapter 418 when Deku tries to embrace Tenko (young Shigaraki) in his subconscious. At that moment, the Decay power erupts, causing severe damage that completely dissolves both of Deku’s arms up to the elbows.
Chapter 419 reveals the full scene, a gruesome and bloody sight that might be too intense for the anime to faithfully adapt, especially given the series’ long history of censorship. The question is whether changes will still deliver the same impact.
My Hero Academia’s History of Censorship Is Hard to Ignore
It’s worth noting that the anime handled Bakugo’s death in season 7 quite well, making it as realistic as possible. Still, it’s hard to forget the many times the anime has censored scenes over its nine years on air.
Whether it was Re-Destro cutting off his own leg, the terrifying story of Tenko, or countless brutal battles with Shigaraki, My Hero Academia’s anime usually avoids graphic bloodshed, and this might happen again with Deku.
Similar to Re-Destro’s severed legs, Deku’s arm injuries will likely be censored: either kept off-screen or trimmed down with less blood, much like the scene where Shigaraki loses a finger to Re-Destro. Fans still have some time to prepare before this tragic moment appears in the anime.
The final season is currently adapting about three to four manga chapters per episode, and with the latest episode ending at chapter 413, the full story about Tenko and Deku’s arm loss might arrive next week.
It’s hard to predict how Bones will handle Deku’s arm injury scene, but fans can only hope the episode captures the manga’s spirit at least once before the anime ends.
