Toei Animation is one of the biggest and most renowned animation studios today. The studio has delivered countless beloved anime series over the years and continues to provide outstanding quality to this day.

When it comes to Toei Animation, fans immediately think of their two biggest franchises: Dragon Ball and One Piece. Dragon Ball, the older brand, is globally famous, but with One Piece’s rising popularity, it was only a matter of time before One Piece caught up and surpassed Dragon Ball. Now, recent reports confirm that One Piece has significantly outpaced Dragon Ball in Toei’s revenue.

One Piece and Dragon Ball Are Toei’s Biggest Series

For many years, Dragon Ball has been Toei Animation’s flagship series, and for good reason. The franchise is a worldwide phenomenon loved by fans everywhere. It has stood the test of time and remains warmly embraced today. Dragon Ball is not only famous but has inspired many other major stories, including One Piece. So it’s no surprise that even decades after its original run, Dragon Ball remains one of Toei’s highest-grossing series.

On the other hand, One Piece has shown a powerful surge. Although Oda was inspired by Toriyama, he has proven he can surpass his mentor. In manga, Oda has truly outpaced Toriyama and all other mangaka by a wide margin. In Japan, One Piece has long been the biggest manga series. Now, according to the latest reports, One Piece has even surpassed Dragon Ball in Toei Animation’s revenue.

For the 2025 fiscal year, Toei Animation recently released its first quarter financial report covering April to June 2025. During this period, One Piece was the top-earning brand for Toei, surpassing Dragon Ball. One Piece brought in 6.1 billion yen, while Dragon Ball ranked second with 5.16 billion yen, a significant gap.

What’s even more surprising is that Dragon Ball recently launched a new anime, Dragon Ball Daima, while One Piece had to pause its broadcast for six months, which could have affected its momentum. Despite this, One Piece appears to have overtaken Dragon Ball in every key aspect.
