In the Naruto universe, the Uchiha clan has always been at the heart of every major historical event, both heroic and villainous. When discussing this clan, one cannot overlook their ultimate bloodline limit ability: the Sharingan.
Throughout the story, this eye technique evolves from a simple combat aid into a godlike power capable of deciding the fate of the entire world.
Let’s rank all 13 Sharingan abilities below, from basic to overwhelmingly powerful.
13. Basic Genjutsu Hypnosis

This is the core and most primitive ability of an awakened Sharingan. Though basic, it holds immense danger by allowing the user to hide their presence and manipulate the victim’s mind with just a glance. In many cases, skilled Uchiha masters can defeat opponents within illusions without lifting a finger.
12. Copying Jutsu

Kakashi’s iconic display of copying techniques against Zabuza early in the series remains one of anime’s most legendary moments. With his left Sharingan eye, the “Copy Ninja of the Leaf” can see through and mimic every hand seal, movement, and chakra mechanism of his opponent. This ability works for Ninjutsu, Taijutsu, and Genjutsu alike.
11. Izanagi (Reality Bending)

Entering the realm of Mangekyo Sharingan, Izanagi is a forbidden technique that lets the user transform reality into illusion for a short time. They can erase death, injuries, and rewrite outcomes to their advantage.
The most despised character in the series, Danzo Shimura, abused this power using an arm implanted with multiple Sharingan and Hashirama cells to fight Sasuke. The cost of “hacking” reality is that the eye used for Izanagi permanently loses its light.
10. Izanami (Infinite Loop)

Created as the perfect counter to punish Izanagi abusers, Izanami does not attack physically but targets the opponent’s mind. It traps the target in an endless time loop within their consciousness until they accept their fate and reality.
Itachi used this technique to completely defeat Kabuto in Sage Mode, sacrificing one of his eyes in the process.
9. Amaterasu (Black Flames)

Amaterasu is a signature Mangekyo Sharingan ability that produces black flames capable of incinerating anything, burning continuously for seven days and nights. These flames are so dense they can consume regular fire. After Itachi’s death, Sasuke inherited and elevated Amaterasu to a whole new level beyond his brother’s.
8. Kagutsuchi (Black Flame Control)

While Itachi could only release Amaterasu, Sasuke wields Kagutsuchi, the power to shape and control the black flames at will. He can turn the black fire into sharp weapons, create protective shields around Susanoo’s skeleton, or envelop his Chidori attacks in black flames to maximize damage.
7. Kamui (Divine Authority)

The exclusive space-time ability of Obito Uchiha’s eyes (and one belonging to Kakashi) is one of the most iconic moves in the series. Kamui allows the user to teleport instantly, phase through objects by sending parts of their body into a separate dimension, store weapons, and launch long-range attacks that tear through space.
During the Fourth Great Ninja War, Obito was nearly immortal thanks to Kamui, which nullified every attack Naruto threw at him.
6. Tsukuyomi (Moonlight Poison)

Inside the Tsukuyomi world, Itachi has full control over time, space, and the victim’s perception. Seconds in the real world can feel like days of brutal torture within the illusion, breaking the opponent’s spirit while their body remains motionless and vulnerable.
5. Susanoo (Divine Protector)

Awakening Mangekyo Sharingan in both eyes unlocks Susanoo, a massive chakra entity that envelops its user. Each Susanoo has unique forms and weapons, like Sasuke’s bow or Itachi’s Yata shield. At its Perfect Susanoo form, wielded by Madara or Sasuke, it rivals a Tailed Beast in size and wields devastating destructive power.
4. Kotoamatsukami (Heavenly Divine)

This supreme genjutsu belongs to the legendary Shisui Uchiha. Kotoamatsukami lets the user deeply infiltrate and control the target’s thoughts, making them act according to the user’s will while believing it’s their own free choice. This undetectable mind control is considered more dangerous than outright destructive attacks.
Danzo once stole one of Shisui’s eyes for his own gain, while Itachi used the remaining eye to free himself from the Reanimation Jutsu.
3. Limbo: Hengoku (Border Jail)

Reaching divine levels after becoming the Ten-Tails’ Jinchuriki, Madara unleashed Limbo through his ultimate ocular power. This technique creates invisible clones existing in a parallel space. These clones have attack power equal to the original but cannot be seen or sensed by normal people.
Only those with Six Paths Sage Mode (like Naruto) or Rinnegan (like Sasuke) can counter this ability.
2. Rinne Sharingan Dimensional Travel

The Rinne Sharingan is no ordinary eye, it is the ultimate fusion of the Rinnegan and Sharingan powered by the God Tree Chakra. The final boss, Kaguya Otsutsuki, used these eyes to perform large-scale spatial teleportation, instantly sending entire battlefields and opponents to harsh alternate dimensions like lava fields, icy wastelands, or high-gravity zones.
1. Infinite Tsukuyomi

At the top of the list is the Infinite Tsukuyomi, a global-scale genjutsu and the central cause of the Fourth Great Ninja War. By reflecting the Rinne Sharingan’s gaze onto the Moon, Madara (and later Kaguya) trapped nearly all life on Earth in an eternal dream, draining their chakra.
Throughout the story, only a few rare individuals escaped this grand illusion thanks to Sasuke’s Rinnegan-protected Susanoo (including Naruto, Sakura, Kakashi), shinobi under the Reanimation Jutsu, and Black/White Zetsu.
