Bleach has long been praised as one of the Big 3 shonen manga and anime with some of the most striking character designs. Tite Kubo is known for creating characters whose looks are both stylish and clearly reflect their personalities and fighting abilities. However, not every design has been well received by fans.
Especially in the Thousand-Year Blood War arc, the Sternritter are introduced as the elite and most fearsome Quincy army under Yhwach’s command. Yet, some members disappoint fans because their appearances don’t match their power or significance in the story.
1. PePe Waccabrada

PePe Waccabrada wields the Schrift The Love, which lets him manipulate others’ emotions and turn allies into enemies with just a touch. This is one of the most unsettling and dangerous Sternritter abilities.
However, PePe’s design completely contradicts this menace. Initially, he appears as a short, chubby old man wearing odd black glasses. When activating Quincy: Vollständig, he transforms into a plump “Cupid angel” with wings and an outfit resembling a baby’s diaper.
Kubo’s intention to create a bizarre vibe unintentionally makes PePe more humorous than intimidating. Given his mind-manipulating power, many believe PePe deserves a look that unsettles opponents at first glance.
2. Nianzol Weizol

Nianzol Weizol possesses the Schrift The Wind, allowing him to bend or redirect any attack with just his thoughts. This is an incredibly powerful defensive ability, so much so that Yhwach keeps him as a personal bodyguard.
Unfortunately, Nianzol’s appearance is very plain. He only wears the standard white Quincy coat, has curly hair, and a face that lacks distinctive features.
Aside from his unique tongue and speech style, Nianzol looks like a background character. This makes it hard for many fans to believe he’s entrusted with protecting the strongest Quincy leader.
3. Meninas McAllon

Standing over 1.9 meters tall, Meninas McAllon is the tallest female character in Bleach. Her Schrift The Power grants her immense physical strength, enough to lift and throw massive structures.
Yet, her design leans heavily into a cute aesthetic, featuring a frilly dress, heart-shaped belt, and a gentle face.
The huge contrast between her sweet appearance and overwhelming strength prevents Meninas from feeling as threatening as her battlefield feats suggest. Many viewers think a warrior capable of crushing foes with raw power should have a tougher, more commanding look.
4. Driscoll Berci

Driscoll Berci killed over 100 Shinigami and stole Sasakibe Chojirou’s Bankai early in the war. He should be a memorable character, but his design lacks distinctiveness. Driscoll is just a tall Quincy with a beard and the usual white cloak.
Without his beard, many would struggle to tell him apart from Mask De Masculine or Gerard Valkyrie, as they all share a similar bulky build. This causes Driscoll to be quickly forgotten despite his shocking assassination.
5. Candice Catnipp

Candice Catnipp is one of the five famous female Sternritter in the Bambies group, wielding the Schrift The Thunderbolt with powerful lightning control.
Yet aside from lightning-shaped eyebrows and green hair, Candice looks very similar to Bambietta, Meninas, and Liltotto.
She wears the familiar modified Quincy uniform with a short jacket, shorts, and a heart-shaped belt buckle. There are almost no design elements that hint at her electric powers, causing her personality to be overshadowed among the Bambies.
This lack of distinction has led many to feel that Tite Kubo was too conservative in designing the female Sternritter, resulting in strong characters who struggle to leave a visual impact.
