Can you believe it? Yusuke Murata, the brilliant artist behind the pages of One Punch Man, recently shook the entire manga and anime community by openly expressing his wish to create his own adult-themed comic based on his work.
What’s even more amusing and intriguing is that he made this statement while criticizing the quality of fanfic artwork by other creators, leaving fans both shocked and thrilled.
A stunning revelation from a Japanese media interview

Recently, in an interview with Japanese media about the delicate relationship between original works and fan-made creations, Murata candidly shared information that exploded across social networks.
He admitted that he often browses fanmade One Punch Man content, especially those focusing on the famous psychic sisters, Fubuki and Tatsumaki. However, after encountering numerous adult fanfics, the artist always felt something was off or lacking. Either the artwork didn’t meet his standards, or the storylines and character development were too shallow, stripping away the natural charm of the two women.
“Every time I come across a terrible storyline, I can’t help but want to pick up my drawing board and redraw it properly myself,” Murata shared.
This bold statement immediately stirred the online community. Across major manga forums, comments like “Let him draw!”, “We’re all waiting for the master’s work!” flooded in.
When the original creator outclasses all fanfiction

Longtime fans know Murata is neither boastful nor speaking lightly. Known as the “rice-powered printing machine” of the manga industry, Murata’s style is famous for incredibly detailed lines, precise anatomy, and dynamic panel layouts full of life.
Fubuki under his brush always exudes a mature, alluring presence with a hint of stubbornness. Tatsumaki appears proud and headstrong on the outside but hides a feminine, adorable side within.
It’s no exaggeration to say no one understands the bodies and aura of these psychic sisters better than Murata himself. One netizen humorously commented, “Turns out Murata is the number one superfans of Fubuki and Tatsumaki. When the original creator steps in, fanfiction doesn’t stand a chance.”
Murata’s unique approach

In the ACG (Anime, Comic, Game) world, the relationship between original authors and fan artists is often delicate. Many mangaka see fanfiction as a copyright threat, issuing warnings or even taking legal action. Others simply ignore it. But someone who openly reads, criticizes, and then offers to create their own work like Murata is truly one of a kind.
However, this isn’t Murata’s first time showing support for fan culture. A few years ago, he actively shared and liked outstanding fanart on Twitter.

He believes fanart is an extension of the original work and the clearest proof of fans’ love. Thanks to this passionate creative community, One Punch Man has maintained its popularity.
This open attitude has fueled a booming fandom culture around the series, from humorous four-panel comics and everyday stories to adult content. In fact, many fan artists have successfully debuted as professional illustrators thanks to their One Punch Man fan creations.
