Although Boruto is the son of Naruto, the respected Hokage of the Leaf Village, his journey is completely different. He inherits his father’s blond hair and charm, but his life and personality are almost the opposite. Boruto shares more similarities with Sasuke Uchiha than anyone else. Recently, creator Mikio Ikemoto explained the deeper reason behind this special connection.
At first glance, Boruto and Sasuke seem like an unlikely pair, but their mentor-student relationship works perfectly in both the manga and anime. Ikemoto pointed out that Sasuke became Boruto’s teacher not just because Boruto is Naruto’s son, but because they share a core experience: both have lost everything they held dear.
The Special Bond Between Boruto and Sasuke

Fans initially expected Naruto to be Boruto’s mentor. However, as Hokage, Naruto has almost no time to teach his son. This created a distance between father and son, leading Boruto to seek attention and even take risks. It was at this point that Boruto chose to follow Sasuke’s path, Naruto’s former rival.
Sasuke not only teaches Boruto ninjutsu and combat skills but also imparts the true meaning of being a ninja and the unspoken rules of the ninja world. While Sasuke might say he does this for Naruto, Ikemoto revealed a much deeper truth.
Boruto and Sasuke Have Both Lost Everything
In a conversation with Naruto’s original creator Masashi Kishimoto, Ikemoto gave an intriguing explanation. He said Naruto’s story began with nothing: hated, without family or friends. But through effort, Naruto gained everything he desired.

In contrast, Boruto starts with an almost perfect life. Yet everything he cherishes is gradually taken away. This is the biggest difference between Boruto and Naruto, and also the key similarity between Boruto and Sasuke. Sasuke lost his entire clan at a young age, left alone with a burning desire to avenge his brother Itachi. Ikemoto linked Boruto’s story to Sasuke’s because they can immediately understand each other through the hardships they’ve endured.
Why Sasuke Is the Perfect Mentor

Sasuke’s heart was shattered witnessing the massacre of the Uchiha clan. Although he later understood the truth behind Itachi’s actions, that pain shaped who he became. Sasuke endured extreme suffering, accepted his past, and sought a way to rise again.
That’s why Sasuke is the ideal guide for Boruto. He can teach Boruto how to stand up when everything seems to fall apart. Having once been manipulated by figures like Orochimaru, Sasuke understands the traps Boruto might face. Fortunately, Sasuke arrived just in time to help Boruto stay on the right path, turning him into a mature and responsible ninja.
