Cosplayer Sparks Outrage Selling ‘Foot Juice’ at Anime Event

Hatsune Miku cosplayer faces backlash for selling a controversial drink that raises health and community image concerns

What seemed like a scene straight out of science fiction has shocked the global online community. At a major anime event in the US, a cosplayer dressed as Hatsune Miku openly sold a “special drink.” Even more surprising, there was no backlash, attendees lined up eagerly and enjoyed the beverage right on site.

Up close with the “pungent” drink booth pushing all boundaries

This unusual incident took place during FanimeCon 2026, specifically at an impromptu nighttime party in a park just outside the official venue. The center of the controversy was a female cosplayer known on X (formerly Twitter) as “Eimi” (@chopstickschan).

Wearing the iconic Hatsune Miku outfit, Eimi casually sat beside a large bucket of ice, soaking her bare feet directly in the cold beverage while displaying a sign selling a unique drink called “Fresh Foot Juice.”

She didn’t stop there, preparing a full price menu that stunned everyone. Prices ranged from 10 to 20 USD (about 250,000 to 500,000 VND), depending on options like regular foot-soaked water or juice poured directly from her feet.

Confused onlookers, eager buyers finishing their drinks

At first, most spectators thought it was a harmless prank or a meme to get attention. But the reality quickly erased all doubts. Many eagerly paid and patiently lined up to get a cup of this “holy water” from their idol. Some even excitedly drank it all on the spot in front of the crowd.

The most striking moment captured by media was the expressions of passersby. Their helpless, stunned faces became the unofficial symbol of the event. These moments were widely shared online, jokingly called the “most priceless footage at FanimeCon.”

Strong public backlash erupts

Eimi seemed to fully enjoy her sudden fame. She dubbed herself the “Foot Juice Girl” on social media and held live sessions answering questions about her earnings and plans for future events.

However, this stunt faced fierce criticism for health risks and social stigma.

Soaking feet directly in a cold drink creates an ideal environment for bacteria growth, posing serious risks of intestinal infections and contagious diseases.

Many worry this disturbing trend will deepen negative stereotypes about young fans of Japanese pop culture, causing the cosplay community to be misunderstood as bizarre or inappropriate.

Despite the backlash over hygiene concerns, the story remains a hot topic and continues to spread rapidly across social media due to its unique and shocking nature.
