Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba) stands as one of the most successful shonen series ever. Though it was already popular before the anime adaptation, its success truly skyrocketed afterward. Beyond manga and anime, Demon Slayer has also made a massive impact in cinema, solidifying its place in pop culture.
After Mugen Train became Japan’s top-grossing film, the first part of the Infinity Castle trilogy, titled Akaza’s Return, is on track to break records as well. However, despite this success, some fans have voiced complaints about the story and character backstories interrupting intense battles and taking up too much screen time.
Some Fans Find Demon Slayer’s Story Interruptions Frustrating

The first part of Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle – Akaza’s Return has drawn the most criticism for weaving in backstories amid the battles.
It begins with the fight between Shinobu and Doma. Shinobu recalls the death of her sister Kanae, while Doma’s life before becoming a demon is also revealed.
Next is the battle between Zenitsu and Kaigaku. Their backstory, including their training under the former Thunder Hashira Jigoro Kuwajima, is revisited.
Finally, in the highly anticipated fight between Akaza and the duo Tanjiro and Giyuu, more backstory is integrated. Tanjiro reflects on his father, and Akaza’s tragic past is unveiled.
Although these flashbacks are lengthy, they add emotional depth that makes the battles more meaningful and memorable.
Fan Complaints Lack Solid Ground

While some fans dislike the interruptions caused by backstories, character histories have always been a crucial part of Demon Slayer, enriching the context and emotions behind each character. These stories have no better place to appear than between battles.
The complaints seem odd, especially since the manga’s backstories have never been an issue. It is these very stories that give the characters depth and make fans fall in love with the series.
