The brief trailer offers viewers a chance to see familiar faces again: the trio of Harry, Hermione, and Ron, along with appearances by Headmaster Dumbledore and Professor Snape.
Iconic moments like Harry’s first meeting with Hagrid, the Sorting Ceremony, and thrilling Quidditch matches soaring through the sky are recreated with stunning visual effects, evoking the glory of the original film series.
Center of controversy: Snape’s unexpected look
However, as soon as the trailer dropped, fierce debate erupted targeting the character Severus Snape, portrayed by actor Paapa Essiedu. The casting of a Black actor in a role originally described as white in the books has sparked strong backlash from purist fans.
According to J.K. Rowling’s description, Snape has a gaunt face, pale skin, a hooked nose, and greasy black hair. Many online users pointed out that Paapa Essiedu does not match these core physical traits. Additionally, some critics feel the actor appears too youthful and has yet to capture the cold, dark, and deeply complex aura left behind by the late Alan Rickman.
