Liar Game, one of the most famous death game manga, is finally getting an anime adaptation after multiple live-action versions. This exciting news was revealed by anime distributor REMOW at the Anime NYC panel, sparking huge excitement among fans.
Madhouse Studios, known for hits like Hunter x Hunter and Death Note, will be responsible for adapting Shinobu Kaitani’s psychological thriller. REMOW also released a brief teaser and the first key visual featuring a mysterious white mask against a pitch-black background, promising a tense and gripping series. The Liar Game anime is scheduled for release in 2026.
Liar Game first appeared in Weekly Young Jump magazine in February 2005 and concluded after 10 years with 19 volumes. It has been adapted into two Japanese live-action TV seasons (2007 and 2009), two live-action films (2010 and 2012), and a South Korean live-action TV series (2014). However, this will be the first time Liar Game is adapted into an anime.

The story follows Nao Kanzaki, a naive and kind-hearted college student who unexpectedly receives a package containing 100 million yen and is drawn into the “Liar Game Tournament.” The goal is to deceive and steal money from opponents. Because of her trusting nature, Nao seeks help from Shinichi Akiyama, a notorious con artist. Together, they must navigate through rounds filled with cunning tricks while trying to maintain their moral compass.

Liar Game is renowned for its unique storyline, lovable main characters, and a fresh take on the survival game genre. Author Shinobu Kaitani emphasizes the theme of “the importance of trust” in a world full of deception and complications.
The anime project will be co-directed by Yuzo Sato, known for Kaiji – Ultimate Survivor, and Asami Kawano, director of The Vampire Dies in No Time. Kaitani shared a message about the anime’s launch:
“This year marks 20 years since Liar Game first appeared, and it’s the perfect moment to announce the anime adaptation. Over the past two decades, we’ve experienced a pandemic, the rise of social media, and a world increasingly lacking trust. I feel the story’s themes are more relevant than ever. I believe this story will resonate with everyone, whether longtime fans or newcomers.”
The combination of an intelligent script, a prestigious studio like Madhouse, and talented directors promises an anime worthy of Liar Game’s legacy. This is definitely great news for fans who have been eagerly waiting.
