The Worst Generation is the most notorious and chaotic group of pirates in One Piece history. Though not an alliance, they represent some of the most dangerous individuals on the seas. For a long time, fans assumed that Straw Hat captain Monkey D. Luffy was the strongest member of this generation, especially after he earned the title of Yonko.
However, a recent flashback about Loki in the Elbaf arc proves otherwise: Blackbeard (Marshall D. Teach) holds secrets about his lineage and power that far surpass Luffy’s current strength. Luffy is no longer the strongest member of the Worst Generation, as Blackbeard has officially taken that spot.
Luffy dethroned as the strongest of the Worst Generation
Currently, the strongest pirates on the seas are the Yonko. Two of the current Yonko belong to the Worst Generation: Luffy and Blackbeard. As Morgan once said, the next Pirate King will come from this generation. This means the showdown between Luffy and Blackbeard will decide who truly becomes Pirate King among them.
Thanks to the Loki flashback in Elbaf, fans have learned much more about Blackbeard. If there was ever doubt about who is stronger between Nika Luffy with Gear 5 and Blackbeard wielding two Devil Fruits, the answer is now clear: Blackbeard is officially the strongest pirate of the Worst Generation.
Luffy is not strong enough to defeat Blackbeard right now
Fans already knew Blackbeard was a monster thanks to his two Devil Fruits: the Gura Gura no Mi, capable of world-shattering destruction rivaling Ancient Weapons, and the Yami Yami no Mi, which can nullify any power.
But Oda has now added a shocking new layer to his strength: Teach carries the bloodline of Davy D. He inherits the power of the Davy family and possibly even Buccaneer blood. This explains his unique physiology that allows him to wield two Devil Fruits.
This means Blackbeard is now exceptional in more ways than one. Beyond his devastating Devil Fruits, the Davy D. bloodline suggests he possesses some of the strongest Haki in One Piece, likely including advanced Conqueror’s Haki.
As the son of Rocks D. Xebec, a secret recently revealed, Blackbeard is set to surpass his father and reach a new level of power.
At this point, with the newly revealed heritage and strength, Luffy is not yet strong enough to defeat Blackbeard. Teach combines catastrophic destructive abilities, power nullification, and a unique body and Haki.
There is no doubt that Teach is the strongest Worst Generation pirate right now. Luffy will eventually defeat him to become Pirate King, but he will need a major breakthrough in power to overcome a multidimensional threat like Blackbeard.
