In chapter 1179, titled “Nerona Imu Descends,” the series’ most mysterious figure leaves the throne to personally visit Elbaf. Here, Imu’s true form is partially revealed, astonishing fans with eerie similarities to Luffy.
First, Imu sports blazing white hair, just like Luffy in Gear 5.
Second, while Luffy is surrounded by pure white clouds when awakened, Imu appears enveloped in dark, ominous smoke.
Third, Imu has the terrifying ability to warp reality, turning lifeless houses into monsters. This power closely resembles Gear 5’s ability to turn imagination into reality, but instead of joy, Imu uses it to spread horror.
The perfect contrast of light and dark
Imu wielding the power of a “second Sun God” perfectly explains the title Lord of Destruction. While Joy Boy (and now Luffy) represent light, hope, and freedom, Imu stands for absolute domination and annihilation.
The nearly 1,000-year feud between Imu and Joy Boy is more than a power struggle, it could be a clash between two extremes of the same divine force. If this theory holds true, One Piece’s final battle won’t just be a pirate showdown but a war to reshape the world’s order between two gods.
