The SBS segment in One Piece chapter 114 has delivered some priceless insights into the history of Devil Fruits. Creator Eiichiro Oda confirmed the original users of some familiar powers, revealing they were legendary figures who appeared as zombies on Thriller Bark.

1. Jiki Jiki no Mi: From Captain John to Eustass Kid

Oda confirmed that the original user of the Jiki Jiki no Mi, the magnetic Devil Fruit, was Captain John. He was a legendary member of the Rocks Pirates before his death.

Currently, this power belongs to the supernova Eustass “Captain” Kid, who can control magnetic fields and manipulate metal. Captain John’s appearance as a zombie on Thriller Bark suggests this ability has been passed down and found its new master in Kid long ago.

2. Bomu Bomu no Mi: From Ganzui to Mr. 5

Ganzui, original Bomu Bomu no Mi user

The Bomu Bomu no Mi, which lets the user turn parts of their body into bombs, also had an original owner named Ganzui, another member of the Rocks Pirates. This power allows the user to detonate any part of their body without harm.

In the main timeline, Baroque Works agent Mr. 5 wields this fruit, using it in quirky ways like throwing explosive boogers. Oda noted that Ganzui had very large hands, making his fighting style completely different from Mr. 5’s.

3. Horo Horo no Mi: From Gill Bastar to Perona

Lastly, the Horo Horo no Mi, currently owned by Perona, was originally used by Gill Bastar, a Rocks Pirates member who also appeared in the one-shot Wanted!.

This fruit grants the ability to create ghosts that can physically attack or sap enemies’ willpower (Negative Hollow). Interestingly, Gill Bastar also appeared as a zombie on Thriller Bark, where Perona, the fruit’s new owner, was present.
