One Piece Reveals Two Opposing Wills of D in Final Clash

Chapter 1164 unveils that the 'D' stands for both Joy Boy and Davy Jones, ancestors of Luffy and Blackbeard, setting the stage for their ultimate battle.

One Piece chapter 1164 shook fans by revealing the Will of D, or at least part of the long-held secret by Eiichiro Oda. However, this Will of D differs greatly from the one Luffy carries. The new chapter shows that the “D” in the Will of D also stands for Davy Jones, the ancestor of Blackbeard.

This implies that this Will of D is fundamentally opposed to the Will of D that Luffy embodies, which is connected to Joy Boy. This subtle difference could become the biggest turning point in the story, adding more excitement to the showdown between Luffy and Blackbeard.

How Luffy’s Will of D fundamentally differs from Blackbeard’s

Blackbeard in One Piece

Chapter 1164 reveals that when Xebec was turned into a demon by Imu, he explained that Davy Jones is the true king of the world. He also revealed that one day, someone would carry out Davy’s Will, then asked Imu who he feared more, Joy Boy or Davy Jones.

This development shows that Joy Boy and Davy Jones are not only different individuals but also carry different wills. Their wills have likely been reborn through Luffy and Blackbeard (Marshall D. Teach). So, although both carry the Will of D, the history and purpose behind their wills are completely different.

They likely represent different definitions of freedom. The winner of the final battle will impose their version of freedom on the One Piece world.

While Luffy’s idea of freedom is to adventure across the world and fully enjoy life (personal freedom), Blackbeard’s likely means overthrowing the World Government and imposing a new era of chaos and domination under his rule (expansive freedom).

The final battle in One Piece will likely decide whose understanding of freedom is better for the world, marking a dramatic conclusion to the story.

Eiichiro Oda may have indirectly revealed One Piece’s greatest traitor

As One Piece fans may recall, in chapter 1117, when Vegapunk broadcasted the secrets of history to the world, he revealed that many people carry the letter D in their names, but among them is a traitor who wants to oppose the true Will of D. It’s highly possible that this traitor is none other than Davy Jones.

Davy Jones may have his own definition of the Will of D, completely opposite to what Joy Boy represented in his era. Therefore, he could be the greatest traitor in One Piece history. This theory makes sense because it parallels Blackbeard, who betrayed his own crew by killing a comrade when he was part of Whitebeard’s pirates.

Since these two characters are deeply connected, this revelation could shape their relationship and spark a tense rivalry between him and Luffy. Their feud might become a symbolic theme.
