In the world of One Piece, the Rocks Pirates remain a mysterious legend. Led by Rocks D. Xebec, this crew once stood at the peak of power, clashing directly with both the Navy and the World Government. Their strength was so terrifying that it took the combined efforts of Navy legend Monkey D. Garp and the future Pirate King Gol D. Roger to defeat them during the historic God Valley incident.
What made the Rocks Pirates so fearsome was their gathering of the most notorious pirates of the era, many of whom later became Yonko, great captains, or rulers of deadly territories. So, besides the monstrous trio of Whitebeard, Kaido, and Big Mom, who else from the Rocks crew has been revealed?
1. Rocks D. Xebec (Captain)
As the captain and founder of the crew, Rocks D. Xebec is a mysterious figure with enormous ambition: he aimed to become the King of the World. Known as the strongest pirate before Roger, recent manga revelations in chapter 1155 suggest he even infiltrated the Holy Land Mary Geoise, a reckless feat few dared to attempt. His power was so terrifying that the government tried to erase all traces of his existence from history.
2. Charlotte Linlin (Big Mom)
Before becoming one of the most powerful Yonko in the Grand Line, Big Mom was a core member of the Rocks Pirates. She possessed the Soru Soru no Mi Devil Fruit, allowing her to manipulate souls. Even as a child, Linlin’s physical strength and unique abilities were enough for Rocks to recruit her, making her an indispensable part of the crew.
3. Kaido
Kaido was also a member of the Rocks Pirates. Initially a trainee, his destructive power and potential quickly surfaced. He ate the mythical Zoan-type Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu, which lets him transform into a giant dragon. Known as the “strongest creature in the world,” Kaido is nearly immortal.
4. Edward Newgate (Whitebeard)
Before becoming the “Strongest Man in the World” and one of the Yonko, Edward Newgate was an important member of the Rocks Pirates. He wielded the devastating Gura Gura no Mi Devil Fruit, capable of creating earthquakes and tsunamis. Although Whitebeard later became famous for valuing “family” and loyalty, his joining the Rocks crew through the Davy Back Fight (as recently revealed) shows he was once defeated by Rocks.
5. Shiki (Golden Lion)
One of the great legends of the Roger era, Shiki “Golden Lion” was also a member of the Rocks Pirates. He ate the Fuwa Fuwa no Mi Devil Fruit, which allows him to control any object he touches. After the fall of Rocks, Shiki became a major rival of Gol D. Roger and the Navy, even being the first to escape from Impel Down prison.
6. Captain John
Captain John is one of the few Rocks Pirates members mentioned early in One Piece. He was famous for the massive treasure he buried all over the world.
If you recall, Captain John’s zombie form in the Thriller Bark arc is covered with scars and stab wounds. In SBS volume 49, Oda confirmed these scars are from the horrific death John suffered at the hands of his own former crew.
After this tragedy, his body was found and resurrected by Gecko Moria using the Kage Kage no Mi Devil Fruit, turning him into one of the terrifying zombies featured in the Thriller Bark arc.
7. Don Marlon
Don Marlon was one of six pirates who joined Xebec before the Rocks Pirates were officially formed. He is introduced as a “gangster from West Blue.”
8. Gloriosa (Former Kuja Queen)
Before becoming the respected elder of Amazon Lily, Gloriosa was a member of the Rocks Pirates. She was a former Queen of the Kuja tribe who left the island 80 years ago. Although details about her role and strength within the crew remain scarce, the fact that a former queen of a warrior tribe joined this notorious pirate crew highlights Rocks D. Xebec’s influence.
9. Miss Buckingham Stussy
Stussy, a member of CP0, was later confirmed to be a clone of a former Rocks Pirates member. While Stussy herself is not a direct member of the crew, her genetic origin is directly linked to a powerful woman who was part of the Rocks Pirates.
Notably, chapter 1155 reveals that Stussy was with Rocks even before the crew was officially formed.
10. Streusen
Streusen “saved” Big Mom when she was young and co-founded the Big Mom Pirates. He possessed the Kuku Kuku no Mi Devil Fruit, allowing him to turn anything into food. His membership in the Rocks Pirates not only shows his extensive experience but also explains the early relationship between Big Mom and Streusen, and why he later followed Linlin to build their own empire.
11. Ganzui
Smuggler pirate Ganzui was one of six pirates who joined Rocks before the official formation of the Rocks Pirates.
Interestingly, pay attention to his appearance during the meal in chapter 1155 and compare it to one of Moria’s zombies. Like John and Gill Bastar, Ganzui appears to have died long ago, with his body later taken by Moria.
12. Silver Axe
Silver Axe is another pirate mentioned as a former member of the Rocks Pirates. Currently, little is known about his strength or role within the crew. However, being listed alongside other “monsters” confirms he was no ordinary figure.
13. Ochoku (Wang Zhi)
One interesting fact about Ochoku is that after being a mysterious name for a long time, he was finally mentioned by Blackbeard in chapter 1059. In that chapter, Blackbeard talks to Koby and reveals that Koby helped him at Rocky Port. Thanks to this help, Blackbeard was able to overthrow Ochoku and become the leader of Pirate Island. This means Ochoku was the ruler of the island before Blackbeard took control.
More recently, in chapter 1155, we finally see Ochoku’s face, and surprisingly, he bears some resemblance to Caribou.
14. Gill Bastar
Gill Bastar is a character created by Oda when he was very young, appearing in his first one-shot manga titled “Wanted!”
However, in the world of One Piece, Gill Bastar has a strange detail: he has four arms. This suggests he might belong to a special race or possess an ability that grants multiple limbs.
Like many other pirates in the Rocks crew, Gill Bastar died long ago. Once again, his body was used by Gecko Moria, resurrected as one of the terrifying zombies appearing in the Thriller Bark arc.
