1. Edward Newgate
Before becoming the “Strongest Man in the World,” Whitebeard was an orphan boy on Sphinx, a poor island neglected by the Government. Growing up in hardship, Newgate valued family bonds above any treasure.
Unlike greedy pirates, his lifelong goal was simply “Family.” Even as a member of the Rocks crew, he held firmly to this principle. That’s why all members of his Yonko crew respectfully called him “Father.”
2. Charlotte Linlin (Big Mom)
Linlin was born with terrifyingly abnormal physical strength, leading her own parents to abandon her on Elbaph. She was adopted by Mother Carmel at an orphanage, which was actually a child trafficking ring for the Government.
Tragedy struck when Linlin went mad from hunger, accidentally killing the giant warrior Jorul and likely devouring Mother Carmel and other children. Afterwards, she met Streusen and began her pirate journey. The pain of abandonment and Streusen’s manipulation turned Linlin into a Yonko who rules through fear and an obsession with a land free of discrimination.
3. Kaido
Kaido was a teenager used by the Vodka Kingdom as a “war machine” to gain favor with the World Government. Disgusted by the corrupt system, he often escaped and even deliberately got captured by the Navy just to live off prison rations.
After joining the Rocks crew, Kaido truly grasped supreme power. At God Valley, he gained a Devil Fruit ability. When the Rocks crew disbanded, Kaido and Arber (King) built the fierce Beasts Pirates, worshipping strength and violence.
4. Shanks “Red-Haired”
Shanks has a very unique origin. Roger found him inside a treasure chest after the God Valley incident. In truth, Shanks is the son of Celestial Dragon Figarland Garling. He has a twin brother, Shamrock, but they were separated after being rescued from the island by Monkey D. Dragon.
Raised under the Pirate King’s guidance, Shanks embraced the ideal of freedom. Yet his life is full of mysteries, including returning to Mary Geoise to meet his father and even becoming a God’s Knight, receiving power from Imu, before giving it all up (and losing his arm) to bet on the new generation led by Luffy.
5. Marshall D. Teach (Blackbeard)
Teach is the son of the legendary Rocks D. Xebec. He nearly died at his father’s hands under Imu’s control at God Valley but was saved by Kuma. Driven by a desire to avenge the World Government and Imu, Teach hid for decades aboard Whitebeard’s ship, waiting to claim the Yami Yami fruit.
He is one of the most patient and ruthless characters. Every move from his unknown beginnings to becoming a Yonko was part of a cold, calculated, strategic plan.
6. Monkey D. Luffy
Unlike other Yonko driven by tragedy or thirst for power, Luffy grew up in Foosha Village with a single desire: freedom. Inspired by Shanks and forged through a harsh childhood alongside Ace and Sabo, Luffy created his own identity.
Luffy’s journey proves that the greatest strength doesn’t come from domination but from the ability to unite people.
