The world of Pokémon features hundreds of unique creatures with diverse strengths and ecosystems. However, alongside the powerful and sought-after species, there are plenty of “dead weight” Pokémon that make players shake their heads in disappointment.
10. Magikarp
Magikarp perfectly embodies the phrase “starting from zero.” This carp is infamous for having one of the lowest attack stats in the entire Pokémon universe and initially only knows Splash, a move that literally does nothing.
Although evolving into Gyarados at level 20 is one of the sweetest rewards in the game, the journey to get there is a nightmare, as you have to keep sending it out and pulling it back just to “share” experience points.
9. Shedinja
Shedinja feels like a risky joke from the game developers. With its Wonder Guard ability, it is completely immune to all attacks except those that are “super effective.”
However, since it has only 1 HP, Shedinja is instantly knocked out by indirect damage like sandstorm, poison, burn, or even Stealth Rock traps. One wrong move and it vanishes before it can even act.
8. Metapod / Kakuna
These two Bug-type cocoons define “space fillers.” If you’re unlucky enough to catch them in the wild, they usually only know Harden, a move that boosts defense in vain while opponents chip away at their health.
Unless you evolve them from Caterpie or Weedle to keep their initial attacking moves, including them in your team just wastes a valuable slot.
7. Feebas
Feebas is basically a Magikarp but with a much higher patience challenge. In older generations, finding Feebas was a nightmare since it only appeared randomly in a few water tiles.
To evolve it into the graceful Milotic, you had to max out its “Beauty” stat using Poffins or Pokéblocks, turning it into a long-term project only for the most dedicated collectors.
6. Luvdisc
Unlike Magikarp or Feebas, the heart-shaped Luvdisc has no successful “glow-up” to look forward to. Its stats are uniformly poor across the board, except for speed.
5. Delibird

With its playful Christmas gift-giving bird design, Delibird is actually a real burden in battle. Its signature move, Present, works on a gamble: it either damages the opponent or heals them by up to a quarter of their max HP.
Although it has some niche uses thanks to the Hustle ability, its paper-thin defenses make it a risky choice.
4. Farfetch’d
For over 20 years, the leek-wielding duck Farfetch’d has been a major disappointment among Normal/Flying types. It had no evolution (in early generations) and unimpressive stats.
Although the Galarian form later gave it a cool evolution into Sirfetch’d, the original Kanto version has always been overlooked in favor of stronger bird Pokémon like Pidgeot or Fearow.
3. Zubat
Zubat’s frustration factor isn’t its power but its constant appearances. Known as the “Lord of the Caves,” repeatedly encountering Zubat with its Confuse Ray and Supersonic moves drives any player mad.
Even though its final evolution, Crobat, is top-tier in competitive play, many players suffer enough trauma to refuse catching Zubat out of pride.
2. Bidoof
Bidoof has become a legendary meme in the Pokémon community due to its astonishing mediocrity. It frequently appears early on in Sinnoh routes with below-average stats.
Players usually catch it only to teach utility moves like Cut, Rock Smash, and Strength, saving precious move slots on their main team members.
1. Unown
The top spot goes to Unown, the most useless battle Pokémon in the entire game. Unown can only learn one move: Hidden Power. Its stats are abysmal, it cannot evolve, and its only value lies in being a collectible with 28 different letter-shaped forms.
Despite playing a key role and having a grand mythos in the Pokémon world’s story, Unown is completely useless in actual combat.
