Early in the Battle City arc, Kaiba faced an unknown duelist and defeated him in record time. Although this victory was impressive, the duel never actually aired.

For most fans, Battle City is one of the best arcs in the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime, delivering memorable one-on-one duels. From Joey’s epic battle with Marik to the classic semifinal showdown between Yugi and Kaiba, this beloved season features some of the fiercest fights in the series.
However, there was a scene with the potential to become one of the greatest duels in the original anime: Kaiba versus an unnamed player. After acquiring the Obelisk the Tormentor card, one of Yu-Gi-Oh!’s most iconic cards, Seto was eager to test it out. He found the perfect opponent when he saw a man attacking Mokuba in an alley.
Kaiba gave the opponent a pair of rare cards to improve his deck, and the duel began with both confident in their skills. Just minutes later, Kaiba had won against a panicked adversary. The anime strongly hinted that Seto would have won this duel within one or two turns by summoning Obelisk, a feat no duelist had ever achieved.

Though the Egyptian God cards are among the strongest in Yu-Gi-Oh!, they are notoriously difficult to use. Because they require three tributes to summon, only the most skilled duelists can wield their full power effectively. This unseen duel between Kaiba and the unknown player proved Seto’s impressive card-playing abilities.
The episode showed Kaiba completely dominating his opponent by summoning and quickly attacking with Obelisk, a task that usually takes many turns. Achieving this in record time revealed that Seto had discovered a strategy to bypass the usual challenges of summoning his god card, something even Yugi struggled to do.
This complex and impressive plan was likely never revealed because it would have made Kaiba’s future duels unfair. There would be no tension if he could defeat opponents in just a few moves.
