After eight long years of uncertainty, the One Piece community finally received an official answer from Eiichiro Oda. The mysterious cloaked figure who met the Five Elders at Mariejois has been revealed, delivering a shocking twist.
The arrival of Shamrock Figarland, Shanks’ twin brother
The opening chapter of the Elbaph arc introduced Shamrock Figarland, Shanks’ twin brother, in a stunning reveal. Fans had long speculated about Shanks having an “evil twin,” and it turns out Oda planned this from early on.
Shanks and Shamrock were separated at age one, growing up in completely different worlds. While Shanks was raised by the Roger Pirates, Shamrock spent his life in Mariejois, training in swordsmanship under his father’s guidance and becoming a High Holy Knight. As Commander of the Holy Knights, Shamrock is as ruthless as his powerful father.
SBS Chapter 114: The answer after 8 years
On March 4, 2026, One Piece officially released chapter 114 in Japan. As usual, the SBS section, where Oda answers fan questions, became the center of attention. A fan asked about the cloaked figure who discussed “a certain pirate” with the Five Elders in chapter 907 (2018).
Oda answered plainly: “That is Shamrock.” He also shared an interesting detail about the anime production process.
“In the anime, that character was originally voiced by Shuchi Ikeda (Shanks’ voice actor). At that time, I realized, ‘Oh, I forgot to tell the anime team this isn’t Shanks.’ But later, I met Tsuda Kenjiro, the voice actor for Shamrock, and thought, ‘This is the right person for Shamrock.’ Luckily, I didn’t rush to finalize the casting then,” Oda revealed.
Although Shamrock has yet to appear on screen in the Elbaph arc, his voice actor was revealed in November 2025. Tsuda Kenjiro, who previously voiced Vinsmoke Yonji (Sanji’s younger brother), will bring Shamrock to life.
Oda’s confirmation ends nearly a decade of debate over how a pirate like Shanks could enter Mariejois so freely. It turns out the figure was a Celestial Dragon with the highest status.
