Gosho Aoyama recently caught the attention of Detective Conan fans by confirming that he has drawn the draft for the manga’s final chapter.
This information was revealed during a special program ahead of the 24-Hour Television Latest Information SP broadcast. There, Aoyama was interviewed at his workplace by singer Chanmina and Taiga Kyomoto, a member of the group SixTONES, both longtime fans of Detective Conan.
When Chanmina asked if he had ever thought about when Detective Conan’s story and career would come to an end, Gosho Aoyama shared that he has already created the draft for the final chapter.
Notably, the author jokingly asked the interviewers if they wanted to see the draft, before commenting that the ending is quite interesting.
However, Aoyama did not reveal any details about the final chapter’s content nor did he specify when Detective Conan will officially conclude.
Gosho Aoyama once thought Detective Conan would end quickly
In the interview, Gosho Aoyama also shared that he never expected Detective Conan to achieve such massive success.
When he first started creating the series, he thought it might end relatively quickly. It wasn’t until the release of the first Detective Conan movie that Aoyama truly realized how popular the franchise had become.
What began as a detective manga expected to finish in a short time has grown into one of Japan’s most famous manga and anime franchises.
Aoyama also mentioned a conversation with Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece. The two mangaka shared a unique experience: witnessing their stories being adapted into weekly anime episodes.
Detective Conan has lasted over 30 years
Detective Conan, also known as Case Closed, is a detective manga written and illustrated by Gosho Aoyama. It began serialization in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine in January 1994.
As of April 2026, the manga has released 108 volumes. The anime adaptation first aired in January 1996, produced by Yomiuri Telecasting Corporation and TMS Entertainment.
After more than three decades, the Detective Conan franchise has expanded into a vast entertainment universe with 29 feature films and numerous other projects and adaptations.
The story follows Shinichi Kudo, a high school student famous for his detective skills. After being forced to take a drug that shrinks his body, Shinichi adopts the identity of Conan Edogawa and continues solving cases while searching for the mysterious organization behind his condition.
The series’ appeal lies in its complex cases, cleverly placed clues, and the protagonist’s sharp deductive abilities.
Gosho Aoyama’s confirmation that he has drafted the final chapter will surely spark curiosity among fans. However, having a draft does not mean the manga will end soon, as the author has yet to announce an official conclusion date for Conan’s more than 30-year journey.
