Demon Slayer has become one of the greatest manga series of all time, and its appeal remains strong even though the story ended a while ago. Now, creator Koyoharu Gotouge has revealed a surprising new manga project following Demon Slayer, a work that will be completely different from what fans know about the author.
The latest film, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1, has been a huge success

Anime fans, and even those who don’t usually watch anime, are captivated by Demon Slayer thanks to the recent films. The series has gained worldwide popularity, partly due to the outstanding anime adaptation that brought the manga to life in a powerful way.
It would be impossible to talk about Demon Slayer without mentioning the studio’s hit films. The first movie, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, shattered box office records in Japan. Following that success, the current film, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 – Akaza’s Return, has once again broken those records. Clearly, the Demon Slayer craze shows no signs of slowing down.

All this massive success wouldn’t be possible without Gotouge’s original vision and the Demon Slayer manga. Although it only ran for 23 volumes, much shorter than many other major shonen manga, Gotouge’s work has become one of the best-selling manga series ever. Selling over 220 million copies in a short time is an incredible achievement that proves the series’ powerful appeal.
Gotouge hints at a new manga project
Demon Slayer remains hugely popular even though the story ended in 2020. But as the trilogy of films wraps up in the coming years, marking the end of the Demon Slayer saga, many fans are eager for something new from Gotouge.
Surprisingly, Gotouge has revealed plans for a new manga project. In the second official Demon Slayer fanbook, Gotouge shared that they are considering starting a new manga. This new work is expected to be very different from anything fans have seen before.
Gotouge’s new manga will be a sci-fi romantic comedy. It seems the author has been inspired by alien movies, and the story might focus on battles against extraterrestrials instead of demons. The tone looks like it will be much lighter compared to Demon Slayer.
Fans will surely be excited to see what Gotouge creates next, but for now, the author has not confirmed whether they will move forward with this sci-fi alien concept.
It’s also possible Gotouge may never launch another manga. However, given Demon Slayer’s huge success and the fact that most young mangaka create multiple series, there’s good reason to hope for a new story. This is especially true as Shonen Jump faces challenges after major hits like Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia have ended.
Matching the success Gotouge achieved with Demon Slayer will be difficult but not impossible, especially now that the author has more experience.
